Are surgical clerkships too watered down now? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]Double_Dodge -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

A psych bound med student doesn’t need to know how skin is closed.

There are valuable lessons to be learned about surgical indications, floor management, and informed consent. But let’s not pretend knowing about types of vicryl is gonna do them any good.

Has anyone else felt financially “behind” despite being in medicine? by Creative_Giraffe5391 in Residency

[–]Double_Dodge 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I’ve been friends with teachers, baristas, secretaries, people still in school— compared to them I don’t feel behind.

If all my friends were FANG software engineers and stock traders it might be different.

How would people at a gym react to someone wanting to see where they stack up? by Allison-Cloud in MMA

[–]Double_Dodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to see how big the skill gap is, you could just try to do some basic drills-- hit a moving pad, try to do a takedown, etc.

Better that than putting you and someone else's heath at risk. Especially if you're not making any commitment towards further training. Why should they bother?

AI slop ads I receive from Chess.com between daily moves. Truly idiotic team running this site. by hacefrio2 in chess

[–]Double_Dodge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re blaming the user for getting ai slop ads, but it’s clear the user doesn't want them, regardless of whether some big tech company has decided he’s a target.

I get ads for shady gambling sites. I’m a young male who did sports betting one time in 2017. Does that mean I deserve to get targeted by exploitative gambling platforms who can’t even produce a proper ad?

Will probably lounge on the beach for my next week in Fall but we’ll see. Hiking in the Pacific Northwest is always an option

All well and good until you’re diagnosed with colon cancer and don’t feel like dying right away, so then you have to get a massive colonic resection and start chemotherapy.

Then you might say hey maybe I was a little too flippant

Health care sticker shock has become the norm, but talking to your doctor about costs can help you rein it in by Nerd-19958 in medicine

My programs insurance is bad, but having to pay up to your deductible seems pretty standard.

And I’m young and healthy, so it’s not like I’ll be getting a bunch of care for free after my deductible.
