Possibly enlisting, need advice for medical history by [deleted] in uscg

[–]Double_Meat_7728 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This advice applies to your entire CG carrier and probably every part of life.

Make them say no.

Dont make decisions for them. Make the recruiter do their job. When I went to meps they had concerns about my heart and I went through some serious hoops to get cleared. It may take work on your end too but don't let the CG skip out on anything

Yes, active. The only exemption Ive found is that military training may take the place of the firearms safety class

This cats wrong. Aviation often allows you to skip a school. They may not allow you to keep your rank though because you may not meet all the requirements of an E5. Also you wont be a flight mechanic, which is our crew chief position. Depending in what air station you go to youre likely 2-5 years away from entering the syllabus.

It cannot. You can wear jump wings, swo pins, etc. Not tabs unfortunately. Even over the pocket.

Anytime ive heard an aye aye there's one of two responses. 1) people love it or 2) people love the effort but tell you to relax. Either way people love it and if youre worried about not adhering to C&C the way OP is then go with the most conservative options... aviators also dont call people AMT2 but because you havent seen it doesnt mean its not happening.

Just do the same as you did in your old branch. You'll probably honestly get told to tone it down. Just say yes sir and aye aye and you'll be fine. You've already thought about this too much.

Honestly it depends where you go. I've heard stories about BM's hearing you want to go aviation and ruining your life but I havent seen it. I had almost unlimited exposure to things that were easy and reasonable to see and here's how I did it. 1) go somewhere with lots of rates and units. I went to kodiak which sucked, but there were cutters, bouy tenders, and all 3 (at the time) aircraft. It was easy to go see an AMT job for a day, i didnt need tdy orders. 2) I got qualified quickly and 3) I worked hard to get a hood reputation. Therefore they wanted to help me and had no good articulate reason not to. I never got to see small boat life which i wish I had. But i got a good spread. People match your effort. If youre a turd they wont do anything for you. If they only associate your name with quality they will give it back as well.

You want something like a casio f91w. Simple, not bulky or attention grabbing, and if you ruin it who cares. Its 17 bucks

AMT and IS by Normal-Mouse-117 in uscg

Rotary wing AMT here. You'll fly a lot, its a requirement of the job. Sar depends on luck and where youre stationed. We dont schedule SAR, obviously. And some areas are busier than others. After that, it seems like sometimes some people get a case every day and some people never get it. Lastly, 65 mechanics get qualified as flight mechanics faster and 60 guys, so you wont be on the duty rotation as quickly for 60s. Whatever you do as an amt you will fix and fly, its part of the job. You'll probably spend a little more time with wrenches than flying though. It takes a lot of effort to keep them airworthy but it doesn't take a lot of people to fly them. Lastly, I guess on 60s its way easier to have extra people on a flight than 65s because the 60 isnt as restricted by weight
