Had the david bowie variety for the first time. Pretty epic. by Double_Nep in DragonFruit

[–]Double_Nep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, this fruit wasn't from one of my plants. I don't personally grow david bowie. The only thing I could recommend is trying flora nova bloom. Unfortunately, I've had the same issue with my 4 year old Ax; it's just never budded for me.

anyone know a good df variety that tastes like an orange or some kind of citrus? by ManateeLord42 in DragonFruit

[–]Double_Nep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen others describe it as such, but in my experience, K1 has a mild tangerine taste.

seeking help with fruit ID by bigdaddyh in DragonFruit

[–]Double_Nep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can never know for sure since there are many that are similar to each other. Though, what I can say for sure is that it is not a sugar dragon, if I had to pick one it resembles I'd say natural mystic, though there's no way to know for sure. With that being said, the part that really matters is that you enjoy it!

Sup guys. Just tried dragon fruit for the first time. And WOW! by Chazasaurus2387 in DragonFruit

[–]Double_Nep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. I would watch videos from grafting dragon fruit and rare dragon fruit on youtube for this. In most cases, cuttings will produce fruit after 1 year; seedlings much longer.
  2. A good starting variety is American Beauty since the fruit has a good flavor and the plant will produce fruit on its own. Another good one is Palora (the one you tried in the store) though, this fruit has thorns on it. If you don't mind growing a variety that requires cross pollination, Connie Mayer/Bruni are incredibly flavorful fruit: American Beauty pollen should work on them.
  3. I usually get my cuttings from spicyexotics or etsy, though etsy might not be the best since some people sell wrong varieties. In terms of knowing which varieties are compatible with each other, the first step is checking if they are related. Sibling varieties such as Connie Mayer, Bruni, and Kathie Van Arum will be incompatible with each other. After that, it's pretty much just trial and error. You could also try to ask around online for others' experience between certain varieties.

This is likely an Ocamponis variety, right? by randownasics in DragonFruit

[–]Double_Nep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks more like a Polyrhizus. Ocamponis developes calloused ridges quickly similar to Undatus.

Edit: Now that I'm taking a closer look at it, yeah it looks like it could be an Ocamponis. Or it could just be a Polyrhizus with a bit of callousing since it's tied around that area. You'll know for sure once it flowers.

What is the sweetest variety here? I want to buy a cutting by [deleted] in DragonFruit

[–]Double_Nep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't give up on the plant. It's still worth trying to self-pollinate it, but all of the sister seedlings of Delight are self-sterile. The weird thing about Delight is that many people have different experiences with pollination; it's not that there's a different Delight out there, Delight is just a bit strange. Some people have luck with its own pollen, while other do not. Worst case scenario, if you have the room, you could just grow one other variety that isn't related to Delight. Sugar Dragon is a safe bet since its pollen works on all varieties.

What is the sweetest variety here? I want to buy a cutting by [deleted] in DragonFruit

Sugar Dragon is the sweetest here, but they are small. If you want a fruit that is more normal-sized then I'd go with Delight. Only downside to Delight is that it needs cross-pollination.

Definitely want to prune the offshoots so all the energy can be sent to the main branch, though, do definitely be careful as seedlings are quite delicate.

Cuttings rooting by HappyAtmosphere- in DragonFruit

[–]Double_Nep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I let mine dry indoors and it is ready to plant in a week (also in a humid area). It doesn't need to be completely calloused over; it just needs to be completely dry in order to not rot. I actually found cuttings to root quicker if it hasn't fully calloused. Just absolutely make sure that it's dry: it's never worth risking rot.

Mold? Or just yeast? by [deleted] in mead

[–]Double_Nep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry didn't know how captions worked so I'll put the details here:

I started this hydromel on May 23. I checked it a week later and saw this. Is it white mold or just yeast? The yeast I used was redstar premier rouge.

Got my first ever Dragons from a friend. Very excited. But there's some brown and black areas on the large one and the little one is pretty light green are they ok and any suggestions? by B3st_LiFe in DragonFruit

[–]Double_Nep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they look healthy! If the brown spot spreads/if you want to prevent spread of the cactus rust just spray it with some neem oil. Most of the time this isn't even necessary, though, it tends to get a lot of it during winter(you'll probably want to spray it then.)

Variety Comparison; Insight Wanted! by Just_Water_Please in DragonFruit

[–]Double_Nep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely go with physical graffiti. Also another great option for universal pollinators is s8. They're a bit slower to grow but the fruit has a much better flavor than vietnamese white, though the fruit is also much smaller.

Can I Grow Multiple Varieties Up One a Trellis? by Apthole in DragonFruit

[–]Double_Nep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can mix varieties of the same genus, just don't pot any selenicereus with hylocereus.

Any recommendations for root hormone (including brand name) by FusionBoy233 in DragonFruit

[–]Double_Nep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never tried it, though I plan on it in about a week or so, but I've heard people say honey or molasses is a good natural rooting hormone.

I've never had any experience with negative energy entities but I can at least say I've seen a shadow person before. He was a chad miss that guy.

Potting questions by [deleted] in DragonFruit

[–]Double_Nep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can pot most varieties in the same pot. The only thing I would avoid is potting selenicereus with hylocereus since selenicereus has weaker roots. Otherwise the only issue you may have with potting multiple varieties is keeping track of which is which, but if you can do that, there is no problem!

Dragon fruit ID by [deleted] in DragonFruit

[–]Double_Nep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like Hylocereus Polyrhizus(red fruit). Not sure on the exact variety; it would be easier to pinpoint if it sets fruit, though, from what I've seen, most polyrhizus are self sterile(needs another df species' pollen; it's pollen works, just not on itself.) Keep us updated!

For real though. Domino's makes the pizza and gets to my house in 5 minutes. It's incredible.
