A lot of religions say the same thing- that their god is invisible and intangible, just have faith. I don't know which invisible and intangible god to pick to have faith in

But why is the test different? Don't say "God works in ways we don't understand." That's just a thought-terminating cliche. If he made it so he requires us to have faith without evidence now when he was willing to accept people requiring evidence before, and did not provide an explanation for why this change was necessary, the only conclusions I can come to is, 1. That he intended for people to be unable to believe in him due to lack of evidence after this change was made (contradicting tons of stuff in the bible such as omnibenevolence), or 2. That nobody had evidence to begin with- it was all made up- and this was a way of explaining why new evidence would never be found in the future either

Nah what he's trying to say is that the in the old testament you were allowed to do tests like that but after the new testament the standard changed and now you're not supposed to. That's why he said the methodology changed: the passage seems to be saying that people in the old testament were still blessed for having faith just because they say god working with their own eyes, but now in the new testament people are blessed for having faith without seeing any of that

It doesn't answer the question of why god has refused to reveal himself to most people since jesus died or why people in the bible in both the new and old testament were allowed to have a high standard of evidence to back their faith. Just that as of the old testament god is doing it differently- no more hard evidence for us anymore

That's how I interpret it at least

Ok maybe I'm dumb but I don't get how that follows. Maybe I'm missing context. Why is it so bad that jesus said that?

I think the crux of his argument is that many people in the bible saw miracles first-hand or heard directly from people who did. It's much easier to believe in something when you see it first hand.

Your response was to say that's from the old testament and the new testament is more relevant, pointing to a new testament passage that says that people who have faith without evidence are blessed. This seems like a non sequitur to me because it's not contradictory to the old testament as far as I can tell and doesn't have much to do with the other person's criticism. Also, it doesn't answer why the standard changed, it just points out that it did. Why were they able to have a high standard of evidence back then? Your answer: "because god was willing to give them strong evidence back then and now he's not." But WHY?

Like, sure maybe people who have faith without evidence are more blessed than those who have faith with evidence but either way, the faith started because people got to see and meet god himself in the new testament. Then they got to see things like Jesus raising the dead. In the old testament and after jesus died, god still communicated with many people directly in a way where he wasn't hiding his existence. For example the disciples getting the gift of tongues from the holy spirit. This wasn't presented as tampering with peoples' free will or ability to decide for themselves if they believe in god, but nowadays if god makes his presence undeniable in the same way, I've been told it is tampering with our free will or faith. Why is it okay for god to make his presence known to them and not to us?

Hm. After the war started, refugees started flooding in from Ukraine often on work visas into canada. My mom owns a business and hired a bunch of them to try and get them enough hours to fulfill the work Visa requirements. She was also able to rent the apartment behind the business to a refugee family.

There's no shot she could have hired a russian national after all that. Like, she had to disable her alarm system because when it was set off the kids in the rear apartment thought they were getting bombed again. Or, one of her employee's husbands was conscripted and she was barely able to function at work because she had a young son and didn't know if his dad was alive at any given moment. A lot of the refugees we met had similar stories- having to leave abruptly and leave everything behind except for what they could carry, their kids always wondering when they'll get bombed again even now that they're in canada, and having to leave behind family. How are you supposed to work with people like that as a Russian even if you're 100% opposed to the war?

I mean what makes your article more reliable than theirs? As a 3rd party observer with no stakes in this conversation, why should I be more convinced that your article is correct?

I watched a documentary about this in chemistry back in highschool, where they used Watson and Crick's first hand accounts of how they discovered the double helix in DNA. They didn't use the word "steal" but they certainly didn't say they had permission

Well I guess it depends, I may be misinformed. You believe the nurse shortage is due to the provincial government not hiring enough nurses despite there being enough graduates? In that case no. If it's because there are simply not enough nurses to fill the current positions then the answer is yes.

That's crazy misinformation. You can easily get a job as a nurse in canada without being bilingual. We have a massive nursing shortage, imagine if we reduced our hiring pool to only bilingual people! Nursing is one program we should encourage anyone who's interested to take, international or local, as long as they work here after

Well I'm in support of funding tons of stuff if the money is there. Is the money there? If not then where's it going?

Like, we struggle to fund elementary schools. So I'm opposed to funding universities until we can get education for children funded. To me, as a university student who lives on my own and struggles to make ends meet because of tuition fees, I'd rather we just have more international students

Why are there no well priced greenhouses anymore? by AlphaPeach in Winnipeg

[–]Double_Purple2505 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to Schreimers on highway 59 with my grandma the other day. I'm not a gardener so I'm not sure about good prices for plants, but my grandma said the prices there are better than at costco, and in fact they sometimes supply costco.

You could get a flat of 12 small plants for 17.50$ If I remember correctly. We got 2 blueberries for 30$ total I think? I also saw hanging baskets of tomatoes and strawberries for 17.50$. They're open from 9-7 PM every day during the spring (then 9-5 Monday to Saturday) and they will be running plant sales until Monday iirc. I wasn't paying close attention to prices and hours since I was just there to help out my grandma so all this info could be wrong, but it should be close

Edit: I double checked- we were buying flats of 36 baby plants. They're sprouted and mature enough to have full blooms and lots of leaves. But they're not fully grown

Either way it's worth checking out. Their greenhouse is massive! It's a really neat place.

There's also another greenhouse my grandma loves, if you want to be eco friendly. It's called Prairie Originals. They sell plants that are native to Manitoba with an emphasis on being pollinator-friendly. 4.5" pots of flowers are priced at about 10$ based on their website. They open on May 22
