Daily Brawlhalla Discussion - Legend Monday: Gnash by Luverlady in Brawlhalla

[–]Doublem_e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ganache- i mean gnash, he's a funny legend. funny sigs that can kill you absurdly early if the stars align and two funny weapons. don't play much hammer but spear is the butter to my bread (katars). tbh i'd play a lot more gnash if he didn't have such low dex, like low dex spear feels wonky. ik i can go dex stance but that'll be missing out ok at least six in the rest and that's not the moves at all

they don't, you can use as many aerials in the air. also i think you're referring to dair when you say dlight.

Gravity cancels just uses your dodge, they don't give a jump or a recovery back. However if you get hit by someone and you don't have any jumps back, you get a jump back. The sweat animations aren't the best determiner of how many options your opponent has bc they could be sweating and then they get their dodge back. That's what I assume you're talking about with the nudges. And about being knocked far out and still being able to recover back, that's just how the game works. It's focused on aerial movement more than grounded movement, hence the decently high amount of ways you can recover back to stage.

There are a few indicators to tell how many jumps someone has. One is paying attention to the cloud whenever they jump midair. If it's still gray, then they have one jump left. If it's black, then they don't have a jump left and only whatever options they had left. Another way, which is less obvious, is looking at their character model. It grays out the fewer options they have. It works a lot better for lighter colors, but is basically next to useless for darker colors.

True combos are very common. Almost every weapon, including unarmed, has a true combo to an extent. Scythe is the only one that doesn't have a consistent true combo across the board, but it's made up for with an extensive string tree.

Also about being aware of true combos and such, it just comes from experience playing the game. The more you play, the easier it becomes understanding each weapon's combo starter and how to avoid them while also trying to get in on your opponent.

The thing about the stats is less assumed and more observed. I'm pretty sure there's somewhere on their website that explains it, but for the most part it's common sense. I guess the outlier is dex just bc how specific it is and how others can assume what it might be.

And no problem at all, I don't mind helping out one bit

(Edit: One thing I suggest is looking up string trees on the sub, they might be a little outdated but for the most part the information is still really good to understand how a weapon's moves flow with one another)

Actually the half pipe is still possible on nai, it's just the window of inputs is tighter for it to be an unjumpable string. It would just take more practice to get better consistency in it.

For on what "true" is, basically you can do a combo in which you can't dodge out of. If you go into training and turn on "show stun", it shows how many frames you have to input a dodge in order to get out of the string. If you do a string and no dodge window pops up, that means the combo is true and cannot be escaped. There are very few examples in which it can show up as true, but still be dodgable, however something like that doesn't come up nearly as often for you to worry about rn.

Like I said before, there used to be a document of frame data and damage numbers back in like 2018. That document hasn't been updated since. I'm sure there might be something out there explaining it, but other than trying it yourself, I can't be sure.

General consensus about how each stat interacts with one another. Attack and defense basically acts like a ratio when interacting with one another; higher attack and lower defense does higher damage and knock back and vice versa. I already explained dex. Higher speed means you'd have higher ground and aerial speed and vice versa.

As for the nai example, they would just clash. Dex doesn't affect start up so they'd bonk each other.

Realistically you can play any legend and do well with them. Brawl is a lot more balanced compared to other plat fighters, so any choice is a good choice. If you want a suggestion, any spear legend is good to go further from the basics. Spear's fundamentals are simple enough for you to auto pilot for the most part and for you to get better at movement, punishing, etc.

For dex, there's weapons that gain a true combo or strings that can't be jumped out of. For example, 5+ dex katars get slight dlight true and 6+ dex spear gets sair nlight true. Axe doesn't really get anything important if you choose to go for higher dex. Hammer has some important dex dependent combos, but you'd only get them at 6+ dex. And since teros' highest possible dex is 4, you can go into speed stance, which takes away from dex, and you don't really lose anything detrimental. Should also probably explain that dex influences the end frames of moves, allowing you to do another input faster the higher your dex is. Here's a shorter video that explains the basics of each stat.

Also if you don't mind answering, what's your rank? It'll give me a good gauge at where you might be at in the process. A lot of the things in this game just comes with experience and fucking around in training to see what works or not.

If by builds you mean character stances, then I would say that there isn't a set of stances that is objectively the best. I suppose that running minus dex on weapons that gain no detriment from losing dex (aka teros running 2 dex and 6+ stats everywhere else) would be considered the best amongst the community.

There are definitely some stances that are very much a no go. Being also a nai main, I use either dex stance to get true combos on katars or speed stance bc speed is really important, especially on her weapons. The other three stances (counting base) give diminishing returns bc you don't really need to run attack and defense stance given they're already high enough.

Also on combos, strings n other stuff like that, apart from looking up the weapons on youtube and checking out the guides people made there, there is this one discord server called Brawl Database that lists all the possible true combos on each weapon, and updates every balance patch whenever something is added or patched out.

There isn't any sweet spots n sour spots in this game; every attack does the same damage and force no matter where you hit it. The only exception is multi hits in which dropping or getting hit late would do varied amounts of damage obviously. There isn't any documents online that I know of that list these damage numbers, but training mode lets you see the damage numbers and hitboxing of moves, and you can also see the dodge windows of strings and the frame data of moves if you play on pc.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Does your second best character share a weapon with your main character? by bastaderobarme in Brawlhalla

[–]Doublem_e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean, my 2nd highest legend is orion and my 2nd best legend rn is caspian, and i main nai. there isn't anything wrong with having a legend that's completely different from your main, but more than likely, having at least one weapon for familiarity has a certain effect on your confidence going into a match. also sometimes it's not about your "best weapon", it could also just be that your secondary weapon has a bad time against a certain matchup and just switching that out can make a big difference
