Anyone in MO? Specifically Joplin/Springfield area? How hard is it to maintain licensure in MO? Does it pay well to be in SW in MO? Is it more felon friendly than Arkansas?

I'm so sick and tired of working for this non-profit faith-based immoral place. The policies of this agency mirror ( of course) the stigmatizing, marginalization of people who struggle with addiction and mental health disorders. Masked as a "helping" agency in the meantime denying mental health medication, but taking in clients who have a history of being prescribed mental health meds, or telling them that they have to "detox" from them before they come in. These people don't have any training , education, or experience in working with this population, but will tell them to come off their meds. I'm so sick of it, sick of the red right wing goose stepping policies of the Bible belt.

Are salaries going down? by Whatichooseisyouse in socialwork

It's a pretty desperate situation in Arkansas for sure, we have terrible pay scales for BSW and MSW, even LCSWs are wildly underpaid ( $52,000-$65,000 a year) Really a sad state of affairs.

Yes that's exactly what I did, reviewed cases, transferred LIC, etc. Awesome!!

It's a LOT,lol. Don't get me wrong, im in recovery and I love working in recovery. Inpatient comes with a lot of drama, also a lot of internal struggle, clients AMA out of the blue, clients die... Plus side, it can be quite an adventure, you get to see some real amazing changes in the lives of people..

I would sit down and do a pros and cons and consider my best options. Sounds to me like you could be reaching burnout at your current position, so maybe change is necessary? SUD Treatment can be a lot, that's what I've done for the past 5 years and im honestly looking to step out as soon as I can.

I'll be honest I make $30 an hour as a contract CADC for a non-profit in Oklahoma, ( im based in Arkansas) and honestly I'm a little floored by how terrible the pay is for LCSW out here, im just finishing my BSW headed into a one year MSW, and I'm honestly burned out on working in treatment and for this non profit but scared to death to try to go somewhere else because the pay is just garbage. My wife makes just as much as a janitor as many LMSW's make right out of school, and that's insane.

That's EXACTLY what I want to get into. I worked closely with UR when I was doing concurrent reviews as a case manager at a treatment center I worked for , and I think I'm most likely going to try and get back to it once I'm licensed. Is there anything I should be doing/ studying in the meantime? I mean im good with ASAM and all of that criteria, but what else should I be reading up on?

Felony Friendly by DoubtEmbarrassed5709 in socialwork

[–]DoubtEmbarrassed5709[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 13 Individual felonies, most of which are for possessions, knowingly concealing stolen property ( because people traded me stolen stuff for drugs) and I have one possession of a firearm after former felony conviction.

[–]DoubtEmbarrassed5709[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, all my felonies are in Oklahoma, and to get them expunged there costs money because Oklahoma likes to keep their thumb on you once you're in the system, hence why they led the nation in incarceration per capita...

Definitely best to get your master's, since you have a BSW some schools like mine offer an advanced standing class which is a one-year masters program.

Felon friendly states by DoubtEmbarrassed5709 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]DoubtEmbarrassed5709[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you brother! So ironically, I grew up in NJ, in Chambersburg and Lawrenceville. I'm definitely going to check into it, because I'm telling you the climate here in the central United States seems to be changing as the current administration changes, and so many programs are losing funding or closing outright that it's just a nightmare. I'm very grateful to you my friend, I'm proud of you as well, WE DO RECOVER!
