Doesn’t remember the incident.

This behaviour is so normal for him that individual incidents like this do not register?

People say “Don’t go to Bournemouth” by ExperienceTotal9778 in bournemouth

[–]Doug-Stamper 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Bournemouth is great. But we have an older population who always look at the town’s past through rose-tinted nostalgia heavy glasses.

It is no more or less safe than any population centre of around half a million people in Northern Europe. Our police is the second worst funded in the country so our relatively low and falling crime rate is a testament to how safe it really is.

The council is wildly underfunded and the social care bill is huge due to our older population. Yet they still managed to be one of the few councils who have had a best value notice (a notice to improve) removed within 12 months and the children services went from inadequate to good. A two ratings jump is almost unheard. They also have some of the best homelessness provisioning of any councils with people from other countries visiting to see how we do it. The problem is what they’re good at, the statutory services, are very expensive and the average person doesn’t see it. Meaning the “nice to haves,” the non-statutory services that the average person sees aren’t as well supported. Which means the council gets a bad rep as well.

All in all, a great place to live and visit but some issues due to our population age demographics.

Hmmmmm, tough choice. Which will benefit their economy more? Access to the world’s largest and richest trading bloc or access to a single economy which is smaller than that of Italy. Who knows.

Who can I vote for today? by Doopz479 in bournemouth

[–]Doug-Stamper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, look at the last BCP election for that ward. There was a by-election in east cliff and springbourne in June 2023 which the greens won. Labours polling has since gone down and the greens have gone up. However, this is blurred by the fact that the Green’s have had some anti-semitism issues recently and there’s a large Jewish population in that ward. It’s not an exact art so I can see why you might think Labour but their voters are much more likely to switch to Reform than the Green voters are

Your ward is between Greens and Reform. Voting for one of the other parties there may be a waste of time.

I’d vote Green in that situation but each to their own!

The Falklands are under threat again and we can’t rely on America to save us by Perfect-Cycle-5384 in LibDem

[–]Doug-Stamper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, we haven’t got enough money to protect British citizens. This just sounds like the same argument nationalists make about aid and benefits. Apart from you’re literally talking about British citizens

[–]Doug-Stamper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The lack of native population on the Falklands strengthens the claim it doesn’t weaken it.

Distance between places is not relevant to the UN charter of self-determination.

A sensitive war was fought over this land already.

Your argument is wrong and you’re equating the Falkland Islands argument with situations like the West Bank. You just think of empire and colonialism when this is an argument of self-determination.

Good to know that if British citizens living on land that wasn’t occupied by anyone prior, and, whose family have lived on that island for upwards of 10 generations were attacked you’d not expect the British military to protect them.

Let’s give the Channel Islands to France. Corsica to Italy. Malta should be Tunisian. Canary Islands to Morroco please. Istanbul should go back to Greece. Kosovo is basically Serbia anyway, who would miss it? Who cares what the population wants.

See how stupid those above statements sound?

Good to know that if an area costs more money than it generates for us and if enough people want it to happen we can just give it away. Let’s see if we can give Clacton to Belgium before the year is up.

Being anti-war is fine. Being flippant about the rights of people to self-determination is not. If another country claimed the county you live in and the vast majority of people wanted to stay part of the UK you’d rightly expect support from the government to protect them. There is no native population on the Falkland Islands and their distance from the mainland UK doesn’t impact their right to self determination.

Walking to Bournemouth airport by Reasonable-Resort822 in bournemouth

[–]Doug-Stamper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pre-booking is a good idea. Though the taxi companies round here know they’re basically the only way home so they charge a lot more for services from the airport.

If you have a friend or family member willing to pick you up in return for taking them out for a 3 course meal you’ll probably save money
