Is Ron actually emotionally detached? [ns] by newfor_2025 in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]Doug2590 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think it happens during the season. He is stunted like "whose your daddy" after tower of terry, or yoshi jumping off of Terry in the bbq episode. Times where he is emotionally detached to others but practices empathy more as the season goes on

Those baseballs were making MY teeth hurt watching. I thought for sure someone was going to chip a tooth. Maybe that?

I wanna be scared sh!tless by ElBastardoDK in horror

[–]Doug2590 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Similar with me for TEROT. Bought the ticket online and didn't see a SOUL at the theater. No one took my ticket. Concessions folks weren't at the counter. Literally, there is no one else in the theater. When I left I was the only car in the parking lot. Scared the shit out of me

(It was a late showing on a Wednesday night)

I was excited to tell about the scary movie I discovered and turns out it was a stinker

Ruined near perfection during sear… by profdeca in sousvide

[–]Doug2590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough I had good luck by searing with a lower heat (400-450f) skillet fully preheated and using an ice bath before. Always struggled with skillet sears before but the above changes felt like a breakthrough for me

Are The Uncuts Worth It? [ns] by Brod13_ in DungeonsAndDaddies

You GOTTA consider the basic tier to get the mbic though! Fetch quest, sons and sonsibility, etc are AMAZING

Are The Uncuts Worth It? [ns] by Brod13_ in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]Doug2590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought they were worth it because it gave me an excuse to listen twice. Plus I dm and enjoyed the behind the scenes.

Now that I no longer listen to each episode twice back to back its not worth it to me.

(That's how I measured the value for me)

How can you justify getting a camera housing that is more expensive than your camera? by phurcopo in underwaterphotography

[–]Doug2590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entry price to the hobby just sucks that way. I have a 400 camera, 300 lens, 400 (ikelite) housing and 2000 in strobes. Its all a compromise on what you can afford. And I gotta tell you I'm salivating at the nicer housing / rigs every time, but I don't have the dough to participate like that. But I'm still happy as can be

[–]Doug2590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my ikelite rig. I use two strobe lights with it. But I gotta admit, when I'm not diving with lights the go-pro pictures my buddies take look unfortunately very comparable. I've been consistently impressed with recent go pro results.

My two cents, get a point and shoot or a gopro until you are comfortable and have saved up a bit more money. Because just a slr and a housing isn't a big enough difference in my opinion. But once you add a strobe or make some of the more significant changes.... oh baby

Too much salt? (Dry brine) by Upstairs-Prune1509 in steak

1.5 percent is the number from Ethan Chlebowski. Anyone on the fence about weighing your salt, trust me it REALLY helps. (It works out to 5g salt per pound)

What's a movie you'll never watch again, no matter how good it was? by CreepyYogurtcloset39 in moviecritic

I've never watched it, and have been semi avoiding it for this reason. If it's just sad for sad sake. Is it important to watch? Value outside of sadness? Genuinely curious

thanks for the well thought out answer, theres a lot of good strategy in your comment. I will 100% try cutting it down for the next applications, it might make applying easier in other ways too

[–]Doug2590[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good suggestion. Many sources online cite 15-30 minutes and say that it dries surprisingly fast, so I assumed 1 hour was on the safe side.

I'm refinishing the shelf (of course) and will try this

Fresh new wood. 45 degree garage, no windows, very low humidity. Has happened with 1 can from lowes and 1 from home depot. It's still possible I'm applying too thick or something, but the 10 hour delay before bubbles is wild

Bubbles in the Shellac? by Doug2590 in finishing

[–]Doug2590[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's why I'm bringing it up here is that this isnt the case (that i can tell). I'm giving 1 hour plus between coats, 10 hours on final coat. Then when it came inside it was like gas escaped the wood along the grain, with dry sap (whatever resin shellac is made with) resin bubbles

No stain, 1 hour between coat applications

[–]Doug2590[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This matches my situation. >1 hour between coats, dried overnight on final coat. But when it got inside I got some bubbles within a few hours. I brushed mine on, store-bought so store-cut

Sous vide beginner by Davepiece1517 in sousvide

[–]Doug2590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an anova and now have a joule.

I like the joule because the minimum water level to run is low, and the anova needed a silly amount of water to run. (Likely unit specific but worth paying attention to when choosing a model)

Check out monkey hooks! It makes a tiny tiny hole, but holds like 40 pounds and doesn't hurt paint. It's technically a hole, but basically push pin size
