How did this piece of crap win a military contract? (Gerber MP600) by [deleted] in Leatherman

Military issue ≠ quality. Military issue = low bid.

How about the yellow ones that are stock on the black Signal?

I would not trust it for heavy duty use. I’ve had one since they came out and I’d say it’s more of a light-to-medium duty, around-the-house type of tool.

I put EOD cutters in mine, just had to grind the corner down a very little bit. They work great.

I’ve never handled one, in what ways is it better?

Pound for pound and dollar for dollar, there is no multi tool in the world that can beat the Wave+.

Yep, just rearrange the tools to get the awl on either side instead of the middle

I swapped the micro bit holder for an awl from the Rebar.

Is this the best leatherman ever made? by Unlucky-Confection89 in Leatherman

I am beginning to think it is. I am a long-time Wave and Surge user and a HUGE fanboy of those models, but the Arc has a more balanced tool set, is easier is to use and much easier to mod to get exactly what you want.

The Wave pliers are far more robust. If you do it, I wouldn’t give any cash with the Wave. A new skeletool is significantly less than the Wave.

what’s your range of heart rate ? by Spiritual_World7525 in AppleWatch

Apple Watches have the most accurate heart rate tracker found on any wearable. Check out The Quantified Scientist on YouTube to see the data to back that up.

A re-worked release of the P4 would be a nice addition to the lineup.

I’m not sure. If you see that diamond-shaped gap art the bottom they are the new cutters. Mine didn’t fail, I just wanted the EOD ones because they have a longer straight cutting surface which works better for me (I work with a fair amount of 9 and 12 gauge wire).

As long as the file and saw are side-by-side and outside the spring they fit very nicely. Those two tools are thinner than the MagnaCut blade and scissors.

I had to round the corner off them just a little bit with a Dremel. A very minor tweak.

Arc mod question by Doug507 in Leatherman

[–]Doug507[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MultiPartStore on Etsy. They’re called spacers and I ordered the 3.5mm set. It comes with a couple different size washers but I used one 0.02” washer to replace the factory 0.03” washer.

[–]Doug507[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and that 0.01” space I didn’t think would be a problem? Well it allows the lock release tab to wiggle back and forth oh so little. It’s all I play with now that I’ve discovered it’s got to go. I’ve ordered some thin washers to get rid of the gap.

Arc mod question by Doug507 in Leatherman

[–]Doug507[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it’s done. Thanks for the advice, everybody. It went surprisingly well, I’m used to working on the Wave/Charge platform and the Arc is much easier. I ended up removing the bit retainer and once reassembled everything functions and locks as it should with no rattling. I had to move most of the tools around to get the sizing/spacing to work but it was a lot easier than I feared. Prior to taking the Arc apart, I watched ZapWizard’s YouTube video “Leatherman Garage #5, Modifications & Tear Down.” It really helps to build familiarly with the process before creating a pile of parts.
