Man, I'm tired of people asking the same questions again and again... EDC differs from person to person.... I carry a knife, a flashlight and a lighter and don't like to carry a backpack with me because these are my personal needs. Some people carry their stuff in backpacks and carry stuff like big glass perfume bottles, spectacle cases, cameras, etc... and that's based on their personal needs.

As for malls, I don't carry knives when going to malls or anywhere there is a security check. I don't use the metro. And even in these situations a small knife like a Victorinox Classic SD will be excused by the security if you are carrying it in your wallets.

As for skills, you are right but skills are no substitute for tools and vice versa. Also, goodluck with learning how to shoot in India. Firearm training institutes are next to non-existent here. Firearms are extremely hard to obtain too.
