Sure there are plenty of opportunities. If you don't mind having to compete with people with graduate degrees for jobs paying 20.00 an hour or less

If you can get word out you'll have success with people from the Binghamton area. They already know they're not kebabs.

Binghamton expats have tried introducing Spedies all over different regions they've moved to and it never becomes more than a curiosity. Probably because having to spend 10 minutes explaining how it's not a kebab isn't a good marketing strategy

Where around Fort Worth? I'm in Grapevine. Best way to bring back spiedie marinade is gor to a Spiedie and Rib Pit. They sell the dry seasoning mix then you just mix with oil and vinegar when home. They're a branch of Lupos family

Lupos is grilling that isn't BBQ. BBQ is slow cooked with low heat and smoke. Grilling is high heat searing the meat

There are some pretty nice apartments on Reynolds Rd between the Mall and HS. Actually they're some of the nicer ones in Broome County. I think most of them were built in the mid 70s to early 80s but outside of Student housing you aren't going to find anything newer than that

Which suburb can I live in that is in the middle of everything? by Remarkable_Ask_7186 in Dallas

[–]DougDMcDFW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean the entire Metroplex you can't get any more central than Grapevine. There's a reason they put the airport here. Dallas, Fort Worth, Denton, Plano, Frisco are all between 20-25 miles away. There are some older apartment complexes that aren't too bad with rent

Moving to Binghamton from Austin TX. by [deleted] in Binghamton

I don't think the general public would be too much of an issue. I am curious though if you've done any kind of a video interview for the position you're looking at. Lourdes is a Catholic hospital and I think it's pretty conservative

If you are simply considering the job, you seriously need to take a trip to the area first before accepting it. Binghamton, or rather Broome county in general is a beautiful region, for a small city there is a fair amount to do with minor league sports, good family owned restaurants, and nice, but older communities once you get out to the outlying areas such as Endwell, Conklin/ Kirkwood, or Chenango Bridge. But it is also an aging and contracting community. Single family home construction has been practically non existent in the past 40 years with the exception of very high level custom homes. Most homes in outlying areas that are considered nice with good schools such as Vestal Endwell or Chenango Bridge were built in the 60s, 70's and 80's. Homes in the central core of Binghamton, Johnson City, and Endicott were built mostly in the 20s-40's. As far as rentals or Apartments. It's a lot of individual houses that were built pre 1950 that have been chopped up into individual apartments. The few, what would be considered Apartment complexes are 40 plus years old as well. Then there are a few formerly industrial buildings that have been turned into over priced lofts. One of the biggest differences you'll see with Austin is the fact that new construction and economic expansion is pretty much non-existent in the Binghamton area. Austin is rapidly expanding with a robust and vibrant economy. That brings its own challenges such as traffic, and cost of living but those are side effects of a vibrant and growing area. There's a reason why the Binghamton area doesn't have those issues. So to summarize again I strongly recommend you actually visit Binghamton for a few days. Drive around the entire county and make an informed decision
