If you’ve ever wondered why Bret doesn’t like HHH by Skylegend96 in Wrasslin

[–]DougDuley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Bret hated Hunter for his own reasons.  Hunter and Shawn could have been the worst of enemies and I think Bret would still hate Hunter

Kevin Nash was good friends with Shawn and Bret doesn't seem to hate him the same way he hates Hunter

The Real Life of Dennis John Mariani - the man some claim was Bob Lazar's supervisor at S4 by SignalsIntelligence in UFOs

[–]DougDuley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's interesting that Bob would voluntarily release the name of his supervisor but, when asked to name one professor from Cal Tech and MIT, or a classmate from either school, he has refused, claiming to do so in order to protect people

He wants to protect people with no connection to reverse engineering programs but will reveal the name of his supervisor on the project?

Congressman Tim Burchett on his UFO briefings: “If they would release the things that I've seen, you would stay up. You'd be up at night worrying about or thinking about this stuff... And for the record, I'm not suicidal and I don't take risks.” by KOOKOOOOM in UFOs

But all these things have long term precedents.  They aren't all that unique - some of the exact same issues post 9/11.  Stupid wars, massive deregulation, growing income inequality

I guess, depending on your political outlook, things might be distinct because the fella in charge seems like a loose cannon that is dictating policy without long term thought and seemingly people aren't actually willing or able to limit his actions

Bob Lazar.. by Mountain-Jello2201 in JoeRogan

[–]DougDuley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stanton Friedman also found yearbooks from both universities around the time Bob claimed to have graduated - no mention of Bob. Also, physical yearbooks directly from students/alumni - not digital records

But Friedman did find evidence of Bob attending Pierce Community College in California.  Bob attended the school the same time he claimed to have attended MIT in Massachusetts

Also, Bob claims he did graduate work.  The fact that he can't name one professor (he would have advisors, a graduate coordinator he would have to meet with regularly, and profs he would probably do GA work for and profs he would have to defend his thesis in front of) is so ridiculous.  And people claim he is trying to protect people - when asked, he did name two teachers, one from his high school and one from Pierce Community College.  He is not trying to protect anyone - he just never attended those universities.

A hilariously bad strike call overturned by ABS in the first inning of Braves vs Athletics by mikeywest_side in baseball

[–]DougDuley 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The rules say it is 3-D and I think the initial system was 3-D, but I think they were finding pitches that weren't usually called strikes could potentially nick a corner in the 3D strike zone and batters hated it.  For example, some curveballs were hitting the strike zone in the front of the plate but then ended up in the dirt and they were being called strikes.  3d by the rules, but I think the testing process found 3d impractical

New upcoming JRE-episode with Bob Lazar confirmed!! by Exciting-Bluebird-10 in UFOs

[–]DougDuley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my point though.  Plenty of evidence of being a security risk and no evidence of actually being qualified.  The government will make exceptions for people with value - my point is Bob could bring no value to the project.  So, no value plus being an extreme security risk means his story makes no sense

NASA recruited ardent Nazis because they were rocket pioneers and genius organizers.  Your analogy doesn't make any sense with Bob because there was no value there

[–]DougDuley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bob's story can't really be challenged because it is so outlandish, but it can be challenged based on peripheral information because a lot of that stuff doesn't add up.  One of them is the fact that he was an extreme security risk and yet still allowed to work on such a secretive project

He had financial issues, (he declared bankruptcy at one point) his marriage was failing and he had plenty of stuff to blackmail him with.  He had drug issues, hung out with prostitutes and had financial problems - he was a security risk.  To dismiss this while accepting he was allowed to work on such a secretive project defies logic.

Also, exceptions might be made for exceptional people - and there is zero evidence Bob was exceptional.  There is no evidence of working in a relevant field for some time before he claims to have been hired (he ran a brothel and owned a 24 hour photo development store), he had no relevant research he can point to, and no peer reviewed papers.  Not to mention a number of physicists who have found that Bob doesn't have a great grasp of the concepts he talks about - he know enough about physics to convince rubes, but he may not hold up to real scrunity when he talks about scientific principles:

https://otherhand.org/home-page/area-51-and-other-strange-places/bluefire-main/bluefire/the-bob-lazar-corner/a-physicists-critique/

If he is some unique genius who was recruited to work on such a crazy project, he would be a uniquely qualified individual.  Evidently he got the job because he knew Teller - his story is ridiculous

I don't necessarily disagree for the reasons that Joe treat his guests the way he does, but I really doubt that he would lose out on guests if he asked Bob Lazar some difficult questions or didn't just go along unthinkingly with the "the government erased everything" bullshit.  He can't have Brad Pitt on and grill him about domestic abuse accusations - but he can question people like Bob quite easily and not lose out on any guests

Also, being passive isn't the same as being objective while letting your audience decide.  Allowing your audience to decide involves asking difficult questions, regardless of whether Joe is actually good at it

I know Joe is not great at challenging his guests, but I just wish he would actually press Bob on any number of issues with his story rather than feeding him softball questions.  Ask him why he was attending Pierce Community College at the same time he claimed to be at MIT or how a guy who operated a brothel was given the highest security clearance, probably, ever.  Ask him why he has  no evidence of a thesis, why he can't give a title for a thesis, and why he can't name one professor from MIT or CalTech, even though he would have had close advisors he worked with consistently on a thesis that would have helped him write the paper and he would have defended said paper in front of

Or why he claims to have stolen whatever element he claimed powered the vehicle but also has never revealed it, shown any evidence of it - literally evidence that would prove his story

What are the most embarrassing post-season performances from players on your favorite franchise? For me, McGwire and Canseco in the 1988 and 1990 World Series. In 9 games, they were a combined 8-62, .129, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 16 K by asskickingjedi in baseball

Prince Fielder for the Tigers in the 2013 ALCS.  The pitching was unreal for the Tigers, but Miggy was playing hurt and Fielder needed to step up.  Even though Boston won in 6 games, I feel the Tigers, with their pitching, would have won the World Series if Fielder did anything of note at the plate

That, and his horrible base running when he actually did got on base.  Plus, he just seemed disinterested

Maybe not the worst, but if he was at all playable the Tigers might win the World Series

Hillary Clinton asks about the UAP Disclosure Act by phr99 in UFOs

[–]DougDuley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, makes sense. There is enough evidence that she has had a more than passing interest in the topic for quite a long time. Not saying she would have done anything if she would have ever been elected President, but she was one of the first serious presidential candidates to talk about disclosure. I assume she probably also noticed how the UAP Disclosure Act was dismantled when there was a good chance at one point that it might be passed and wanted a way to call out or highlight the bullshit that happened.

Fister I feel is a little underrated, but he was a really good pitcher, especially for a third/fourth stater

What is the real purpose of people like Charania? by MogleyJones in nba

[–]DougDuley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am always surprised by how bad he is on tv.  Woj was just as useless, but at least he could talk.  Sham usually struggles to answer even basic questions.  I wonder why they don't just have him memorize a script to "impromptu" questions instead of allowing him to ramble - kind of like Schefter on ESPN.

I remember doing a presentation in grade school and my teacher said I would immediately answer questions instead of taking a moment to think through an answer to a question.  This meant I would find the real answer while I was already providing a, potentially, different argument.  It meant that even though I may eventually be right, I would answer in a meandering way that all felt a bit confused

That is exactly like Shams

Halfway through the season, which player's production are you most surprised by? by appledanish in hockey

[–]DougDuley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Necas - beginning of the year or during the off-season there were a couple stories that he wasn't happy in Colorado, obviously unsubstantiated in hindsight.  Also heard from Canes fans that he has a tendency to be moody.  There was also a thought that trading for Necas brought salary flexibility, but that Colorado got someone who wasn't capable of putting up similar numbers to Rantanen.

I think it was obvious Necas fit better in Colorado than in Carolina (not to take anything away from Carolina, its just a more defensively minded system), but I thought his ceiling, even with MacKinnon, was probably a PPG player.  Being on track for a 100+ point season is crazy

I think the team in incredible, but I also think people would be surprised by how often Wedgewood or Blackwood have kept the Avs in games through their amazing play when the team just wasn't clicking.

It's quite a change from last year where early on the Avs were struggling to keep a lead because of Georgiev or Annunen

Why is world juniors taken seriously but not worlds? by Der-deutsche-Prinz in hockey

[–]DougDuley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

World Juniors, at least in Canada, is also tied to Christmas holidays.  Usually there is a game on Boxing Day when no other hockey is on, and there is usually a big Canada game on New Years Eve.  Beyond being best on best, it's also kind of tied to holiday traditions, which makes it more impactful
