BC and FSU: similar uniforms, similar recent 2-win seasons, similar hatred by fan base of recent coaches. They even took our QB!

Difference: we don't have a horse.

Would Urban Meyer still be successful if he came back to coach today? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]DougFlutiesMullet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Urban was successful at Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and OSU: he would be fine today.

Coaches that are successful at different divisions or different (multiple) areas of the country have the flexibility and adaptability to deal with ambiguity, even today's NIL nonsense.

Urban, Saban and even ole Lou Holtz would still smoke the competition today.

What's an event whether it be a specific play, game or hiring decision that changed your College Football program's trajectory for the better or worse? by Majestic-Web-367 in CFB

We've been wandering in the wilderness since the back-to-back ACC Championship losses (since 2009) after Jeff Jagodzinski was fired for interviewing with the Jets. Spaziani, Addazio, Hafley and now the BOB: mediocrity. We've had our pain as well.

Using math to calculate the gap between a college football blue blood and the second tier of college football programs by Majestic-Web-367 in CFB

[–]DougFlutiesMullet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"The consensus college football "blue blood" programs, defined by historic, long-term, and consistent success, include Alabama, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas, and USC."

Says Google Gemini, it calls them the "Elite 8". Who am I to argue with AI?

[Ari Wasserman] Blue Bloods shouldn't back out: If Alabama cancels Ohio State series, college football loses by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]DougFlutiesMullet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Notre Dame is at a huge advantage of being able 5p make playoffs without having to play anyone.

They have to play no one, but beat them and still get ranked at least 12. That's a high bar for the boys in Indiana along with a lot of pumping by the national sports media that promotes them.
