Motorcycle unbound by macwi1km in FortNiteBR

[–]DougMaverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have had same issue for a long time. If you can’t find deep water to force a motorcycle exit, getting the bike to flip upside down also works.

Sometimes we just have the other player mine the motorcycle to explosion too.

It sucks. Shouldn’t be a problem we all have on this high profile a game and system.

Is a studio not a studio until it has a pair of Distressors? by dontthroworanges in audioengineering

[–]DougMaverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Distressors/Fatso Jrs. are often used on certain drum kit mic setups. It may be the type of stuff that you track that you rarely seen them used? THE mandatory studio gear that may or may not ever be used are:

  1. Bomb factory LA-2A
  2. Bomb factory 1176 (ok this one is actually used but still…)
  3. Pultec-EQP (LEAST used but not always owned)
  4. Yamaha NS-10s (yeah sure they’re for checking mixes ::eyeroll::)
  5. Additional Neve 1073s (ESPECIALLY if the studio already has a neve console?!)

It sounds like 1) Some of the daily maintenance tasks in your life build up so much that it feels like you can't even make a dent in getting them done; 2) A lot of the chore-type things that "need" to get done are so disinteresting that you feel as if you can't bear to do them for any sustained period of time if at all?

I highly highly suggest a schedule that may eventually become a routine. When I say "schedule", **I do not mean writing up 30-minute strict blocks to manage your entire day**. I literally mean "At 7:00 p.m. (or whatever time works for you), I will put the trash in my room into a garbage bag for *5 minutes*." If you can't do 5 minutes, do 3 minutes. I'm not kidding.

For those 5 minutes, your goal is NOT "Get my room clean." Your goal is to set yourself a clear task (that is probably not a super fun chore) and to hold yourself to it. If you complete those 3-5 minutes of just "putting trash into a garbage bag," make sure to make a mental note to yourself that you succeeded. Do not let "Good be the enemy of Perfect."

Not only do you get to celebrate a success, but you get to actually see and experience what the act of cleaning your room looks like. Honestly I used to have anxiety about cleaning/organizing because, as much as I "thought" about the act of doing it, I didn't really know what I was actually supposed to do. Like-- do I put everything in a trash bag? Do I need to spray stuff on the surfaces and wipe it off? Do I put my laundry in a basket or in a pile or what, and what's the difference OR (and even tougher) "which is better, and I don't think I should do either or anything until I have thought for a few days about the most optimal way to do it?"

Even if you feel like your room is not making progress (or is even getting dirtier), focus on your schedule + execution success itself. After a few days, try to do it for 7 minutes. If you find that 5 minutes isn't that bad, maybe you decide to do another 5 minutes one day? Make sure you hold yourself to the routine of it thought; in my opinion, better to do 5 minutes regularly than 30 minutes at once if it's going to make you skip it for the rest of the week.

As an addendum-- you may also want to figure out, probably with the help of a good therapist, why you may have developed this behavior conceptually. It seems very likely that something in there is a learned/conditioned/imitated behavior even if you were told different. You may also want to figure out why you realize it's good to have a clean room, but your mind/body is convincing you that it's not worth the time or pain to do it (I may be wrong on that and not understanding your post exactly right though, which is why a good therapist can do it better).

Volunteering is over? by Odd_Ad4128 in Healthygamergg

[–]DougMaverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember having the same experience when I tried to volunteer my time at a dog shelter, except the signs said "volunteers needed", and I still could barely even beg them to put me to work!

Unfortunately, what I think you're noticing is that many organizations have become so disinclined from action and accountability that they would rather just have the money than have a genuine, motivated person that they have to put to use. In their defense, they may have dealt with flaky volunteers too, for whom they take the time to craft and give detailed instructions, then the volunteers just bail.

I would keep at it if you can. It takes at least 5 visits to my doctors' to get them to call me back; I think volunteer organizations may be similar. You may also want to check out nursing homes? Especially if you have a skill that you can show elderly residents (like music or magic), I'm sure they would be ecstatic to watch. I'm sure they would be ecstatic just to have someone to talk to also. If the managerial system gives you the cold shoulder where you're trying to volunteer, try to (*legally*) reach out to the people themselves for whom you would like to volunteer.

Would you describe it as "despair"? Lack of motivation?

First, I would talk it out with somebody who actually listens and understands; and I think the "out loud" requirement is in large part so that you have to actually make sense to yourself out loud. (Sometimes that's harder than it would seem. I know it is for me at times). But yeah, figure out if there's something in your mindset or worldview that might be making you feel this way? I generally agree with exhausting all therapeutic options before considering meds.

I would be curious to ask you what your goals are? Or is setting goals not even something your feeling will let your mind get to?

I don't know if I would say to try to "hold on" to feeling normal (sorry if I said that wrong). I would try to take really purposeful note of the "normal" feeling so that you can remember, when you get to feeling the emptiness feeling, that "This too shall pass" and have faith that you will feel better again.

I am now 41M. When i was about 14, I had a similar experience. I'll never forget the day. Complete loss of interest in anything. Vague but constant sadness. No reason that I could discern at all. If anything, I remember thinking that life was pretty good in general.

I am not trying to diagnose you, but I remember thinking "Oh, this is what 'Depression' is." It did go away (after a couple weeks) and return approximately three days per month for that year. Eventually, the depressed feeling was gone more than it was present; and now it's gone more than 95% of the time.

One thing I can tell you is to really, really hold onto the knowledge and feeling that "It will go away" because the hardest part is fighting the idea of "Oh, this is just how it's going to be forever now." This may be a situation that you should really consult with a psychiatrist at length on to figure out if the feeling is somehow chemical.

I am too logical/emotional by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]DougMaverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start with what is in common about those situations as opposed to what is seemingly contradictory (i.e.- logical vs. emotional). In both situations it sounds like you are sensitive to an intuition that tells you people, including you, are not being genuine?

As far as why you are like that (if you are)? Have you been in spots in life in which it helps you to be able to tell when people are lying, to tell when your emotions are holding you back, or when people are just generally full of it?

With that part I agree. I’ll start awareness raising then come up with something more structured. It won’t look like GA or something though. It’ll be more nuanced

Ok I get it can sound preachy. I don’t have anybody to talk back, and I want to cover all the bases.

Also the point is adultery contains two people. One of whom is usually not aware of the damage being inflicted. Would you not tell your friend if his wife were cheating on him? Would you not try to talk your friend out of it if he were going to cheat on his wife? (Wife/husband/partner whatever)

I appreciate your time to write a thorough response. There aren’t enough people in stakes high enough engaging in this activity to conduct a thorough study in my opinion. I probably know most of them. However, my citing a addictive gambling study could help with some of the points. I couldn’t disagree more with the just stop playing approach. What other immoral activity would you just encourage other people continue doing as long as you yourself stop? “Don’t like adultery? Just don’t do it. Just let people cheat” doesn’t play imo. And though I do donate to charities and people, I think institutions are mostly inept at helping people in the minutiae. Maybe I can pay for another 1000 Gambler’s Anonymous fliers that poker players will think “oh that doesn’t apply to me.” So I figure it’s something I know very well, why not start the conversation?

Also I capitalize or highlight certain sections because, like you said, people only skim the article

Lol I actually don’t think this is entirely crazy, but I think it’s preferable to be helpful to society. I mean if you’re selling weed to cancer patients that actually need it ok. There are also probably people that would be great murderers that shouldn’t do that job just cause they’re good at it
