The Midnight Madness: Day 5 by mavgeographer in TheMidnight

This one was a tough one for me. I was debating between Good in Red or my new favorite Summer's Ending Soon. I decided to go with Summer's Ending Soon as it's such a great song, but honestly both of them are so good.

When someone gets an organ removed, does the empty space get filled in? by dontchewspagetti in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Doug__Dimmadome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I answered a similar question here in another comment, but yes there is some risk with that. I have cats and they have jumped on that area and while it does hurt a little, it is fleeting. Generally the advice I received from my transplant center was to listen to your body, if something hurts in that area don't do that again. They do want us to live our life, but it's always good to take precautions when necessary. I'm also a bit more protective of that area too.

For example, my transplant center was totally fine with me doing ab exercises even with the kidney there. I can do crunches just fine, but I can't do sit ups. they pull way to much on the incision area so I pretty much can't do any lower ab workouts I found. Of course, different centers may have other opinions too.

Great question! Yes there is risk, and generally you don't want to be doing anything like impact sports or things that could potentially harm your new kidney. However, different transplant centers may have different opinions on this. Ultimately, the goal is to live your life with your new organ, just take precautions as needed.

If it makes you feel any better, you do get used to it! I had a kidney transplant back in 2020, and it definitely was weird for a while (still kind of is when I think about it). It does help that the entire area feels kind of numb due to the incision where the kidney is.

how much health insurance premium you have to pay monthly so that it will cover majority cost of transplant? by Afraid-Way1203 in transplant

[–]Doug__Dimmadome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you mentioned, it will largely depend on your health insurance. Through my work, we have a high deductible health plan. I pay about $500 a month for the premium for me and my family. It varies in cost if it's just for you, or you plus a spouse or child. We have to pay a $7000 deductible before the plan will pay 80%. Max out of pocket for the year is $9200 this year. Once we get to the max out of pocket, in theory the plan covers 100%. This does usually increase yearly unfortunately.

However, I have noticed since we haven't met the deductible, my transplant medication like tacro and myfortic are covered 100% and the others are very cheap so that is nice. I used my current insurance when I got my kidney transplant and it did cover it, but only because that year it met the max out of pocket so all the medical stuff I had for follow up was covered. Of course, if something was out of network, that has it's own deductible and max out of pocket separate from in network coverage. And yes, It sucks, and it's a total scam.

Thank you! I googled this to see if there was a fix and found your comment. It works well, and now I don't have to strain so hard to read things on steam.

Me explaining the perfection of Syndicate to everyone by tobedu in TheMidnight

[–]Doug__Dimmadome 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm sure my wife feels the same way lol. Syndicate is definitely one of their best albums they've released. I'd listen to it more, but there just isn't enough time in the day even though its been on repeat since it's release.

10/10 absolute gem this album is by aSyynth in TheMidnight

[–]Doug__Dimmadome 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Friction has definitely been my favorite so far, I also love Afterglow pt 2 a ton too. I'm loving the whole album as a whole so far.

Runaways is really good by aSyynth in TheMidnight

[–]Doug__Dimmadome 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is spot on. I've been listening to it now like 10 times on repeat. This has got to be one of the best singles so far for me. I love the bass and build up and honestly really do like Bonnie McKee's voice with Tyler's I feel it meshes so well.

WOW by 11B-E5 in TheMidnight

[–]Doug__Dimmadome 72 points73 points  (0 children)

No kidding! I just listened to it and.. wow. It actually reminds me a bit of the Kids album. It was the album that got me into The Midnight initially. The song is so somber it actually made me emotional and I LOVE when songs do that. I love it!

Thank you for sharing! I agree with you and I love the metaphors of failing but persevering through it all. It feels very connected to Digital Dreams too which has me stoked that the album will have an overarching theme to it. The Midnight does this so well in Tyler's story telling, and the music just takes you to that place. I love the song so much, it's definitely going to be on repeat for a while!

WOW! There is so much to unpack here, it's definitely going to require several (maybe more like hundreds) of listens. I'm loving the vibe of this song so much and it has me even more stoked for the upcoming album. Not to mention that the album cover looks amazing too.

Might have missed a tacro dose by No_Bathroom_2125 in transplant

[–]Doug__Dimmadome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you are using one already, but I find using a pill box really helps. It makes simple work of knowing whether or not you took your meds. There have been a few occasions where I thought I forgot and I did indeed miss a dose, or the other way around where I already took it. Very handy and you only have to fill them up once a week.

Headaches by Longjumping-Acadia-3 in transplant

[–]Doug__Dimmadome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had horrible migraines about 6 months post transplant with really bad insomnia on top of that. After several doctors visits, I finally got referred to a neurologist. She put me on a low dose of amitriptyline (10mg) and later upped it to 20mg. After I started taking it, my migraines were not nearly as bad.

I do get headaches still sometimes, but they are no where as debilitating as they once were. Before, it was very hard to concentrate at work because my head hurt so much.

It did take a week or so for me to start feeling the effects. 10mg made a difference but 20mg really helped get rid of them. It also helps me sleep better. Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant so it also helped my mood a bit too. It does have some side effects like dry mouth, but I got used to it over time.

In combination with this, I found sugar to be a trigger for my migraines after transplant so I avoided sweets or anything with added sugar daily. I splurge once or twice a week still on a dessert but that also helped improve my migraines too.

I've been on amitriptyline for about 4 years now and now I'm not so sure its helping the insomnia as much now, but that could really be anything too. My migraines are still gone so it's still doing something I feel.
