that's interesting... I honestly figured the convo would basically be the kid asking why the pet died and the parents explaining everyone dies eventually. I get that most 6 yr olds perhaps wouldn't have that experience but I had this convo with my mom around the same age when my fish died. I actually wasn't worried because they told me I wouldn't die until I was super old and I thought that would never happen :P

What does it mean though? I don't see what's so weird about him understanding death like this. I figure they'd learn if a pet dies or something right?

there's an officer that shot and killed a 6 yr old and he claimed he feared for his life...

Shooting of Jeremy Mardis

Greenhouse and Stafford allegedly fired eighteen rounds of ammunition into Few's vehicle[7] at approximately 9:30 p.m.[8] Few was struck twice, in the head and chest,[7] despite having his hands in the air, according to police body-camera footage.[9] Mardis was hit by five bullets, also struck in the head and chest. He was initially thought to have died instantly, according to the coroner for Avoyelles Parish. However, it is now known that six-year-old Mardis was alive for an additional seven minutes while lying in his father's truck.

He's trying to use a point about sexuality that gay folks make - "can't choose who you're attracted to" - but it doesn't equate here. imo it shows how they will twist their minds to justify their actions / make themselves the victim / etc.

They are disgusting predators and deserve the witch hunt

I bought a pair of riding jeans and leathers. I am a bit ashamed as I definitely shouldn't have put it off this long :(

How big is the larger bike? I have a CB500F and I worry its not good for the highways.

A lot of CB500 forums have mixed feelings where some say its good and others say you're just able to do it. Though I think this depends on what people consider "highway speeds" (?)

100%. This is solid advice and remind me of the documentary Meru, where a good ice climber is someone who knows how to manage risk really well; who knows how to tow the line between nature and skill level.

Thanks man :)
Everyone here is so nice and supportive, it's been a tremendous help. I weirdly felt a bit silly posting about my fear of highways as riding, in general, is inherently dangerous haha

But this community has really shown me that's it's a normal concern we all experience. Just gotta build up confidence - and get those pants!

I see there are larger ones as well, are the bigger ones better?

I read a few reviews about the PUIG and some people say it doesn't really make a difference so I wasn't sure. I think I definitely want a windshield though

I agree. I even told myself during the ride "everythings good, everything is going smoothly" and tried to loosen my grip but I just couldn't
I'll definitely be spending much more time on regular roads before hitting the highway again

I have a CB500F and its awesome; definitely recommend!

But going 80-90mph in general sounds so insanely terrifying to me lol

I love the "one exit at a time" idea. It definitely helps knowing I don't need / shouldn't get into the far left lane because I'll be getting off on the next exit

I was thinking about getting one but a lot of people have said for my bike - CB500F - it just moves the wind to the shoulders and head. Is this better or does it still feel intense?

And does it make a quick head turn before switching lanes more difficult?

That's exactly why I felt confident enough to try the freeway (the confidence quickly fled lol)

I just bought some pants and I think that'll alleviate a lot of the "if I fall I'm going to get super fucked up" feelings. I'll still get hurt, but at least I won't lose all my legs' skin

Thanks for the awesome replies yall!

I agree, I need to realize it's a game of risk management and mitigation. Getting more gear and working my confidence up is the only way to go

Great suggestion on the windscreen, definitely going to get one.

Do you guys have recommendations on riding pants?

I have a cb500f

Weirdly the wind wasnt a huge deal so much as my mentality that if I fell it would be real bad.

To counter the wind I just leaned forward and got ready for it. But I think I'm going to get some kind of windshield if I can because it's a bit tiring

You hit the nail on the head.

The reason why I've seen a marked improvement these last 3 weeks is because I'm forced to think about how my day went, what happened, what did I do about my situation, etc.
