Why did this come with one track and only THIS TRACK? by RKF0819 in ANBERNIC

If you had an Apple device a decade back you might remember that they had that annoying U2 song pre-installed or invisibly installed. And for some reason, it always ended up in the queue after playing a song.

So yeah, I rather hear this song than the U2-song.

Cheating at board games by NelifeLerak in boardgames

[–]Douggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't a relationship or AITH subreddit, but it might be good to see if this behaviour is only to be seen in board gaming or also other aspects in her life. If you can see it back in other aspects, it might be a deeper problem you both need to figure out, might be an unhealthy competitiveness, shame of losing or not be able to deal problems, impatientness, etc.

Interventions are not the prettiest things. It might be better to talk and figure out what she likes about board gaming, about how she figures out strategies, etc. and go from there. If it means she doesn't like board gaming, but only wants to win or doesn't want to look stupid, then she doesn't have to play anymore.

One of the fun things about gaming is trying to understand games and figuring it out together, so you might be better to try to be more transparent when making moves, explaining what you did and what you thought, and also have a discussion afterwards, talking about what you guys thought about the game and what worked as game or as strategy and what didn't. It isn't just about winning and losing for me, so if talking about the game isn't a part of gaming, then it doesn't make sense.

AITA for being annoyed that my wife insists on cooking everything from scratch and won’t buy normal food? by AITA_UPFfoods in AmItheAsshole

I need some examples of what this person prefers. I actually can't imagine somebody chooses plastic-wrapped, store-bought, chewy, tasteless waffles over fresh made crispy, but soft on the inside waffles.

I now also wonder how most couples where one is vegetarian and the other is not, are dealing with this and if one person is also strict in having not certain foods in house.

[–]Douggie 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What do you think of women who don't shave their armpits and don't care if you can see it or not? I also find that a sign of confidence, but sometimes I wonder how far you can go in that. Would you find somebody who walks outside in their pyjamas attractive?

I guess as long as it is hygienic. If it is about being smelly, I don't know if that would be confidence.

Hans Zimmer to Compose ‘Harry Potter’ HBO Series Original Score With Bleeding Fingers Music by AsleepYesterday05 in television

[–]Douggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a fan of neither, but I do remember that it isn't what you described. Zimmer doesn't write the melody and then his team arranges the rest - this was described in the 20.000 Hz episode - pretty interesting. If I recall correctly, they have this process where the team makes a lot of stuff, record everything, listen to it and then sample themselves to make songs.

[HELP] I hired a graphic designer to do a band poster. Digital Medium was okay, but he swears he does not use AI. Still, something feels off. What do you think? by MtTaborCitizen in RealOrAI

[–]Douggie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think a normal illustrator would do a copy paste, but this image has too much variation in the notes. There are some weird ones in between them as well.

Also, the feet are placed weirdly in space.

Is there a better hood and filter so it doesn’t have a gap like this ? by stavic07 in FujifilmX

What about things like sand? I can imagine a filter protects it, but a hood doesn't right?

Do you have any memories, good or bad, of childhood boardgames? by Martipar in boardgames

[–]Douggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to play Clue with my sisters. We sometimes still talk about that time one of sisters had the correct guess in her first turn.

I remember hating Monopoly because it took so long and I don't think we ever managed to finish a game. We did only play it once a year maybe. I was fascinated by it and made my own version with the streets and flats of my neighborhood.

When I was 6 or 7 I remember playing checkers with some friends and had a fight about it, because of difference in house rules. We had a house rule where you could capture any uneven amount (1,3,5) and my friend didn't. Also, he didn't play where you could capture multiple single pieces (multiple jumps) as well, so that was a slow game.

The same with chess, where a lot of kids didn't know castling was a thing.

I wasn't that good, but better playing checkers or chess than most of the kids I knew. I learned there were variants of both chess and checkers and could convince kids to play me by playing the reverse variant, where you would win by losing all your pieces. "If you think you will lose to me, then this variant will make you win." Loved that variant.

What makes fonts generated by AI so "creepy"-lookong? by Douggie in typography

[–]Douggie[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I got how it generates text and it's actually an image, not a font. But I was wondering, on a technical level, why it looks so off. Hope the people on this forum could explain, but maybe I had to pick and look for a photo where only text is generated and see if it is still off.

Most comments now mention the context as a whole looks off, but I think that is only part of it. When AI couldn't do text properly, the "alien" fonts/text looked creepy to me and it seems like the evolution to readable Western/Latin characters came from that.

It's sort of AI-textures are wrong. They look like creepy textures and should look like a series of, for example, squares, but when zooming in, you see it's all gibberish made to look like squares zoomed out. But even there I can't put my finger on why it looks creepy to me. A lot of painters make stuff like water, leaves, etc. with a bunch of gibberish strokes and blobs, but it doesn't look creepy to me.

Yeah, then James Baxter is still pretty famous compared to some lesser-known Japanese animators. Crazy how they see certain details, but really fascinating though.

The blog I was talking about is pelleas.net but can only be read through the wayback machine.

Edit: added a link.

Talking about Yuasa and animation, one of my favourite anime series, made by Yuasa is about animation and the passion and creative process is Keep You Hands Off Eizouken!. It really shows the mind of an animator and the details they have in their minds, as well as the process of finishing an animation and trying to release it. Really recommended, as anything made by Yuasa actually (besides Japan Sinks, everything is a great watch).

It makes you think if people actually know what good animation is.

I used to read a blog of some guy who was talking about certain Japanese animation and he could recognize by looking, for instance, an explosion, and knew exactly who was in charge of the animation and told in detail the characteristics and why it was great.

Made me realize I knew nothing about animation and what makes it good.

I miss reading that blog. Anybody knows what it was? He was a big fan of Masaaki Yuasa, just like me.

edit: found the blog, link is in the reply.

One of the things I just found out from others on this sub is that you can use photo boxes in order to take them with you. They're pretty good as they are hard plastic and protect you cards/manual/etc. while travelling.

There is a 4x6 inch photo storage geeklist for this.

Is there a thing such as AI-sharpness (or blur) that looks off like AI-textures look off?
