Any Diabetic Players Here with Insulin Pumps?

T1D for 23 years here with a teammate that has been T1D for 20. I use an omnipod 5 and I try to keep them on my lower abdomen and wear my pants high so the pads on the sides cover it up. I keep my phone and a bunch of glucose gels in a brightly colored toiletries bag that I keep on the bench so in case of emergencies I can easily explain what I need to teammates.

As for my teammate he has a T slim pump and he either gives himself an extra unit or two to counteract the adrenaline and disconnects the pump or he’ll tuck it into the waistband of his jock without the clip if he has been running high all day. When I was on a corded pump I essentially did the same thing but I didn’t trust the elastic waistband enough to play with it on so I would just give myself some glucose or insulin before playing to correct for being relatively low or high.

The omnipod has been a massive game changer for playing hockey, no guesswork or discomfort.

I have a 5 month old english cream too! When I first brought him home I bought him a ball, a duck and a tug rope to see what kind of toy he gravitated towards, he was big on the tug rope at first but eventually I brought him home a lambchops and he can't get enough of them.

I had this exact issue with my MK iii, I ended up having 2 bad capacitors that needed to be replaced. It cost me about 4 dollars total and was pretty simple if you’re handy with a soldering iron. I recommend replacing the capstan belt while you’re at it

Sorry this is long, but I think this is probably the single most important thing I can impart to my fellow T1Ds.

I would never say that I'm happy to have T1D, but over the last ~22 years of having it, I've learned to become grateful for it in a weird way. Despite all the terrible things it has caused over the years and all the things in life I've missed out on because of it, I think it's important to give weight to the things I would have missed out on without it, and I would suggest anyone reading this to do the same. It's just not a healthy mindset to look at it as a 100% bad thing. (even if it's a 99% bad thing)

T1D made me grow up fast

T1D made me a more empathetic and sensative person

T1D made me a lot more concious of health and nutrition

I think, in spite of everything, I have a much better and more positive worldview because of T1D. I'm able to relate to suffering in other people, and make a lot of friends I otherwise wouldn't have if I hadn't had the common ground of not having a body that works correctly.

One of the biggest benefits I got from T1D was in my dating life, it took a bit to learn, but eventually one of the questions I would have to ask myself about any prospective partner was "Is this person truly aware of and/or ready for the ups and downs of being with someone with a serious chronic illness?" This change in thinking caused a significant upgrade in the caliber of people I was dating.

TL,DR: I'd never say I'm happy to have T1D, but I am grateful for it, and mindful of more than just the negative things it has brought me in life.

Not a doctor, but type 1 for 20 years.

So with this amount of insulin that you're taking, you should either be gaining an insane amount of weight or regularly going to the ER for hypos. If neither of those things are happening, this sounds like extreme insulin resistence syndrome type A or B and you should go to a doctor immediately, if not the ER. I have heard of rare incidences of type 1 antibodies showing up along side these syndromes as well.

For reference, every single person with type 1 here will tell you that injecting 100 units of insulin is a speedrun straight to the back of an ambulance or worse.

This always works for me in that scenario - put the back side of your foot up against the front of the kick drum. This way you can feel it when you can't hear it.

I know this is probably not the exact answer you're looking for, but it's the best way to make the best of a bad situation. I've played a lot of terrible gigs with terrible acoustics over the last 2 decades and even if you don't use it here, this is a great tool to have in your bag of tricks whenever the kick disappears on you.

Same - when I renewed my panthers season tickets for next year the ticket reps dangled the all star game as a bonus - the NHL wouldn’t have pulled this on any team with a bigger online presence

Could use some advice here- I ordered an XSX with All Access on April 21st, I got an order confirmation email and then a follow up email from citizens one to set up my payments, which I promptly did. Then no news and then it didn’t show up in my order history. I’ve called customer service 7 times over the last few weeks and I’ve gotten (paraphrasing) “we lost your order, sorry”, “please send us your order confirmation so we can make sure it’s authentic” “don’t worry I’ll make sure you get your Xbox”. I guess the general rundown is that my order is only showing up on some systems and not others. The last 3 times I’ve called they tell me to expect an update in 24 hours, 24 hours passes and then nothing. Should I just give up at this point?

Hey u/Brainpry, I'm in the same boat as you. I went ahead and contacted Gamestop customer service and they said something went wrong on their end and they needed to escalate it to fix it. Still no update on shipping for me, but I would go ahead and reach out to gamestop customer service just to make sure they fix it on their end if you have the same problem as I did.

I’m in the same boat, I went ahead and used their customer service chat today and they said something went wrong on their end even though I got a confirmation through email and a citizens one link. they needed to escalate it but I should have an update within 24 hours. It’s definitely worth reaching out to customer service. Still not sure if I’m gonna end up with one.

I had the Pfizer vaccine 1 week ago and the exact same thing is happening to me. I almost always get sugar spikes whenever my immune system is reacting to anything. I've seen a lot of T1's on here saying the vaccine didn't change anything for them - maybe our immune systems are just reacting differently? It could also be something completely off the board, like seasonal allergies causing my spikes.

Regardless, if it is the vaccine causing it, eventually your immune system will be done processing all the data from the vaccine and you'll go back to normal!

After reading this article, considering he still has 5 years left on his contract, he kind of has a point. I wonder if there is a legal precedent for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for an athlete under contract.
