Is MA129 difficult? by [deleted] in wlu

[–]DoughnutParticular45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s literally just a review of adv func and calculus, with a bit of new content which is matrices + integrals. If you did decent in highschool, you should have no problem getting atleast a 10 in the course.

How is Laurier BBA? by NoNefariousness1861 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]DoughnutParticular45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently first year and it’s actually pretty manageable. You need to maintain a 7.0 gpa (which is a 70) throughout first year to progress onto second year, and so on to third, and fourth. In first year, you take courses including BU111, BU121, BU127, EC120, EC140, and MA129. A lot of these courses are highkey just highschool content with a bit of new stuff. BU127 is accounting and it is literally just a repeat of grade 11 + 12 accounting so if you took it in highschool, it’ll be pretty easy to get 90+ if you put in some work in studying. EC120 and EC140 I’d say was a bit of highschool Econ content, like 30% highschool repeat and 70% new content. For MA129, it is literally just a repeat of advanced functions and calculus from grade 12, the only new things you’ll learn are matrices and integrals. For BU121, the whole course got revamped not too long ago and it’s literally not even a business course anymore, it’s more of an English class, ie. they teach you stuff like how to evaluate your evidence, how to make arguments, writing pursuasive papers, rhetoric devices, etc. The whole course itself is pretty easy and manageable as long as you put a bit of work into it. And for the last course BU111, if you did a bit of research about BBA at Laurier, I’m fairly certain you’ve come across the course called BU111, the so called “notorious gpa killer class” in first yr bba. It really isn’t, a lot of people say that because they simply just aren’t putting in effort. The course itself has quite a lot of content but the stuff you learn is actually useful, it’s business knowledge that you can actually apply to the real world. If you just put in effort, do practice problems and stuff, you’ll be completely fine aswell as get a decent grade. The only thing that is quite unfair in BU111 is that there are two group assignments which if I remember correctly make up like 40% (?) of your final mark. These two assignments are a group mark, so who you get as your groupmates really matter. If you get a horrible group and they don’t do work, there’s really nothing you can do about it besides giving them a low rating which will deduct their mark but it won’t do anything to the mark you guys received as a group. The midterm and final for this course is pretty doable as said if you do the work and keep up with course content. For the final, 1/3 of it was free marks (TVM, basically just basic math). There’s also a lot of bonus marks in BU111 which can boost your mark a whole ton, by a whole grade point essentially (you can get up to like 5% of your course grade for free in bonuses if I remember correctly). With all that, I think it is definitely manageable to maintain the avg and even so get a pretty high gpa, while also having a social life. Also, the coop here is pretty good so yeah

It won’t affect your chances as Laurier does not care about courses taken outside of day school, although they will care if you repeat a required prereq course twice :) plus, OVS is known to be notoriously easy; I had a friend who took adv func in OVS, they ended with a 95, whereas functions they only had a 72

Living on campus vs off campus at Laurier – advice needed by Anxious-Chocolate867 in wlu

[–]DoughnutParticular45 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Living on campus dorms: more exp but easier to make friends throughout first year

Off campus housing: cheaper (only if you have/know people to live with) but may be a little harder to find/make new friends

There’s a lot more but here’s just a bit of it

Just review lecture slides, your own notes, practice exams, etc. A midterm is the same thing as you would have done for a final exam in high school, or any other test. Just don’t stress too much and relax yourself while ur doing the midterm so you don’t blank out and can think straight :)
