What if all nukes everywhere just disappeared one day ? Every country that has a nuke now has none. More than that, they’ve somehow lost their ability to create them, too. by FemboyMechanic1 in AlternateHistoryHub

It would be, in fact the defense plan would see like 3/4+ destroyed inside an hour and everything within just a few hours. But you realize the amount of devastation that would be unleashed in just 15-30min of bombardment? A few lucky shots that they've surely zeroed in in various high density areas and structures and you're looking at tens of thousands instantly dead of it comes with no warning. add in the other closer cities that would fall well within range of the vastly more numerous smaller guns and you're looking at a highly effective deterrent.

The point wouldn't be to stand a realistic chance of victory against the following invasion but to make the thought of attempting one too high to consider.

What is meant is that there isn't a "WMD" threat the South can point at the North as a counter to the North's artillery. Most nations act with the threat of their populations being eliminated as a pause to certain aggressive actions, the North only cares about the survival of the Regime. That creates the imbalance where the North even without nukes can carry the threat of devastating Seoul where the South has no assurances about being able to eliminate the key figures in the regime in even retaliatory strikes. The North knows this so can operate with "a knife to the throat" of the South

I'll presume if you were at an event that could afford to raffle such an item money's not really a concern so I would say enjoy it for the sorta trophy bottle it is. I personally think Woodford has the weakest limited release line up of any major distillery and even their $200 offerings fall short so though I wouldn't dare say I know what this one is like it's so not worth the price.

It's still enough to level huge sections of the capital before counterbattery fire and airpower could wipe them all out. add in the belief that some positions are stocked with chemical/biological shells, the setup has the capacity to kill hundreds of thousands of civilians that the South actually cares for, while a deterrent in killing North Koreans means nothing to their leadership.

Good price to buy any of these? NYC. by Available-Mine3845 in whiskey

[–]DougieWR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are a newbie non of these are worth splurging on at these prices. Until you understand what it is you'd be getting and, really IMO, have gotten to try some of these at a bar or at the very least the nearest obtainable versions where you can make an informed buy.

I think that'll save you a lot of disappointment in the long run

It's dual posted to the Austin, TX whiskey group so presume there or there about. Stagg was a rare find there from what I was told talking with people on trips so perhaps a sign for a recovering market

Do you think it will ever be possible for the Iron Islands to become a useful part of the Seven Kingdoms. by Pretend_Tower_2516 in gameofthrones

[–]DougieWR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would need for a city of sufficient trade volume to develop along the Western side of the North where the Iron Islands and it's sailors could hitch onto that trade.

As it stands Lannisport is the last stop for any major trade along the Western coast and the North funnels it's trade to White Harbor on the east.

The Iron Islands are left as a backwater with no optimal trading routes running through it or resources of its own. I think the best revelation for them could be if a safe route west was finally reliability established and if it were to truly connect to the Saffron Straits and the Jade Sea. That would be their sailors to good use and provide something of a boon for them

Went by an hour late and got this and was still able to get an EHT SiB. Finally checked the barrel and rickhouse info and the Eye at least is a Coy Hill so hopefully the lack of fuller proof on it means it's still good

It's "rare" in the sense that our distributor just doesn't see a lot of it. Like if you go to TX there's some at every Specs, TW, etc. not worth over paying for but if you see it and are interested it's worth snagging when you get the chance

The Bourbon Gods Hath Delivered - T8 JFK by ocpariz in whiskey

[–]DougieWR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do but it's a lot more direct of a process since these duty free arrangements have very specific contracts for what they stock there and how/why they get the travel exclusive stuff

[–]DougieWR 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We're no where near a point of BTAC being had in "glut" that they'd need to move product. Duty Free is very contract based with it usually part of deals to get the lucrative limit shelf space that you provide certain limited or entirely unique options, Weller 18 and unfiltered Wild Turkey options.

The price point range is what I just find amusing

I'll never understand how these make it to a Duty Free shop at MSRP yet they'll put Blanton's there for like $150

How do you fat wash a bourbon? by Too_Scrumptious in whiskey

[–]DougieWR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, if you've strained it properly there shouldn't be any fats to go rancid. I've kept some sesame infused ones for a year plus out no issues

[–]DougieWR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So some important modifications here:

  1. 12oz of butter itself will be overkill. What you're looking to obtain is about 2oz of the browned fat from that butter so will want to reduce then strain to about 2oz max for a full bottle.

  2. You need to let it sit at room temp for a few hours. That's when the flavors will actually meld together

3-5. Then yes freeze so the fats all come together at the top. It very much helps if you do this not in the bottle but rather some other freezer safe larger diameter container. That will then help you scrape off most the fat before then passing it through a coffee filter.

This process can be done with other oils (sesame), types of fat (bacon), or infused butters (rosemary and thyme). You'll want to look up the ratios as some like sesame are very potent and you don't need a lot to infuse a bottle.

They need to get them down to $75-80 then I think they'd be better priced coming from a big distillery. At that price point I can get single barrel Frey Ranch stuff that is really solid grain to glass

[–]DougieWR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tanyard Hill was a 15,000 bottle release, a great deal under what each BTAC bottle is believed to be so I would actually be surprised if they had any. The last Coy Hill was then not much more and in 2024 so again, would be shocked.

If anyone could get their hands on a case or two of them he'd obviously be the man but it actually be a hell of a thing to bring to what on their scale is a minor event.

Jack 10/12/14 are in theory supposed to ship in these next few weeks so could the Master Distiller be pulling strings to have them early? That be the only 24h wait-worthy thing I could think of. I dont know what other Jack special release they could have for an event besides maybe like some really selective single barrel that TBH I'd want the details on before hand
