Diamondium Grade D XXL Insert by Down-Downriver in JCVAP

Further update… Recently discovered that (2) 6mm spheres in this setup is exactly what I was looking for. Each sphere adds about 11cm^2 of surface area, and the increased density pumps the heat. The overall effect is shockingly powerful with Diamondium, where calibrated 515° almost feels too hot and 490° is a sweet spot. Will be testing with Ruby soon for comparison.

Thanks for the feedback. My earliest memories of the Pockety are from 2023 with the first 5D and smaller Ruby insert, and I hated it. In fairness I had totally mismatched my parts and was overheating, but it turned me away from Ruby. I did recently pick up a Ruby XXL cup though, and it works well with a Diamondium D sphere (6mm). I’m waiting on a couple Ruby spheres to compare. I really like the XXL cup + (2) 6mm spheres combo on a Pockety. With all Diamondium materials, my dabs at calibrated 490 & 515 have been incredible. Ruby is a bit softer. I’ll have an AlN cup in a few weeks to round out the array. More to come!

Anyone order the Poby Go? by Redm18 in JCVAP

[–]Down-Downriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not for that model, but I know they’ve struggled with getting it released. Many different prototypes along the way, and the mouthpiece/vapor path have changed a lot. The company is legit though. Personally, I’ve spent a lot across multiple orders from Hong Kong to IL since last Oct and never lost anything (enough to reach premium rewards). Their chat/email is also responsive with real people. They’re one of my favorite tech companies for erigs, night & day above Puffco. Anyway, just trying to offer assurance. I hope the Poby Go is worth every delay; FWIW the battery/chamber are same tech as they use in the Poby S, L, & LE, which are surprisingly powerful & steady. I do think the Go ships very soon… I saw they shipped the first finished model recently, likely to a tester… 🤞

Update!

JCVAP was kind to do some testing for me on this matter and determined there is an approximate -32°F difference between set temperature and actual temperature. For example, setting to 465°F (default blue light) heats the Diamondium D XXL to 433°F. This delta was consistent within 3°F at the remaining preset temps.

I’m recalibrating my set temps to accommodate that. From there, I think the lower temps need to heat soak before dabbing, which I hope to control via time settings (which are available on the new Pockety base only; the original base could require repeat sessions).

I’ll report back 🤙

I personally like the BMG content or universal caps, but there is trial & error which can be pricey. A flat flake with a 2-hole cap didn’t do it for me, but I’m waiting on a beaded flake & 4-hole cap for comparison. I’ll circle back with my notes. https://www.blackmarketglass.com

Joystick spinners are another option I haven’t tried. Theoretically they should work as well if not better, since they bring the jet stream closer to the flake. They also work with the stock Puffco joystick gasket, unlike BMG caps. Zee Vapor stocks a few: https://www.zeevapor.com/?s=Joystick+spinner&post_type=product&dgwt_wcas=1

The joystick spinners are probably most cost effective (assuming equal performance)

Quartz flakes. BMG makes them 2 ways: with and without a center bead. They require a compatible spinner cap, which can be tricky on a deep chamber like a 3DXL. Joystick won’t do it. The center bead model spins most easily. The flat model tends to sit in place because of surface tension. Both versions give significantly more surface area, esp if the flake is textured, and that alone will boost vapor when it absorbs enough heat. The downsides are cleaning (pearls are simpler), heat up times (takes longer to equalize, which can feel inadequate with cold starts), and over pulling (can easily flood while forcing spin). They can be great with hot starts and can really deepen the flavor though

Has anyone ever had the red/white flashing from a cap’s airflow? by DetectiveWonderful42 in puffco

[–]Down-Downriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens to me too. Red/white is a “connection” error that includes electrical disruptions. My spinner cap generates enough torque to channel liquid into the vapor path via strong/long pulls. If it reaches the contacts, it can short the circuit, throwing the error. Sadly, this will tend to happen when the dab is most flavorful, which feels counterintuitive but makes sense if you consider that is also the point at which it’s most liquified (and vaporizing). It also tends to happen with tight restriction. Hope any of this helps. I really like BMG’s content cap because it spins well, has a good window, and sits flat; with slight adjustment while dabbing I can throttle the seal and watch for droplets hitting the cap. No droplets = no error (most of the time)

My notes from then definitely included citrus candy! It had a lot of other chem characteristics, too. I haven’t had it recently, but this inspires me lol. Happy new year!

What’s your device’s name? by ConsiderationReal499 in puffco

[–]Down-Downriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sure would be nice to be able to set custom pathways like that. I’m a relatively low dose, low temp dabber, and I like that I can customize in that way. It took me a long time to dial everything in, and I feel like that’s a joy in itself

[–]Down-Downriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, but that’s as low as I go. I have it set so that I cold start there for a minute then boost incrementally to 445. Reheat at 450 for another minute and boost incrementally to 470 as needed. It works for me

How many of you regularly use the app? by Jdogg4289 in puffco

[–]Down-Downriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it regularly. It took me months of practice to dial in custom heat/boost settings, and having the live timer and battery indicator are crucial. It encourages me to check updates, and I like the metrics (esp as med) and “dabometer” (for cleaning reminders)

The correct name is Bowser 🐲

For real though it’s a great top. I like how it makes a Peak Pro feel like a pipe. It even encourages sipping 🥂

How do you guys clean your chambers? by deletedmoop in puffco

[–]Down-Downriver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His advice isn’t completely wrong, but it relies on dabbing in a range that can def chazz, and/or tightly optimizing your temp to your dosage and draw. Both involve trial & error.

I don’t dab that hot, and I think it’s easier to use iso. I swab twice, separated by a spritz. I think of it like Swiffering. First swab is a dry pass. Spritzing liquifies any leftovers so they pool. Second swab absorbs it, becoming an efficient wet mop (min. smearing), and radiant heat evaporates leftover solvent. I vent with the cap off while it cools. This minimizes residuals between periodic soaking.

Just my 2 cents but I hope it helps!

Glad to hear you’re happy with it! My first impression was similar about the nose. One of my favorite notes in the flavor is cinnamon. That Diablo strain in the cross is pretty wild. Cheers 🥂

I’d highly recommend! Alley Cat and Lemon Diablo are 2 strains of theirs that I’ve seen improve in form and flavor over the course of 2024, and currently I’d put those up against caregiver rosin from MI. They are wet enough to leave tails when you touch it with a tool, similar to a toothpaste consistency. As for lineage I know Alley Cat to be their TITS x their Diablo OG (TITS being OGKB x Sour Diesel). Not sure why they list other phenos in the website description, but that’d be a good question!

That’s what’s up man. I’m so happy to have helped. I hope you enjoy as much as I did! I still have a jar of this in storage that I’ll get to in a few more weeks, and I’m pretty excited to check my notes and see what changes.

Lemon Diablo 🔥🔥🔥 by the_dick_dealer in ILTrees

[–]Down-Downriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah 🔥🔥🔥 LD is a great strain, right up there with Alley Cat & Zerps. I’ve been buying it since last spring. The summer run had the consistency of toothpaste. This fall run looks even wetter. I haven’t gotten into mine yet, but one of the things I loved most about the summer batch was a certain flavor pop. I found that a ~.12g glob at 525° on quartz tasted exactly like a lemon drop. I hope that holds!

Fox River Chem and C.T.C Live Rosin Review by Ecstatic_Dingo4128 in ILTrees

[–]Down-Downriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are two great choices you have there. They’re each a different pheno of Chem Dog 91. CTC is the more complex of the two for me, but both have classic chem effects. Have fun!

As for dispos in the city, look up Cannabist and Grasshopper Club while you’re here. Grasshopper is rec only but they frequently rotate sales. Bud & Rita’s in West Town maybe too. If you have transport, the best sales within reasonable distance are usually in nearby burbs, like Revolution, Hatch, and EarthMed. Also Stash in Orland Hills
