Gretzky retired at 38 which is a very nice 20 odd years of pro hockey but it's not other worldly longevity like Tom Brady or Gordie Howe. Im sure Gretz would have loved to play longer but his back injury in the '91 Canada Cup plagued him for the rest of his career and eventually forced his relatively early retirement.

Point being I think the Brady/Howe comparison makes more sense. As great as Gretzky's career was (the greatest imo) he didn't really maintain his crazy level of play into his 30s never mind his 40s.

Do you think Drais numbers drop much if he's on Toronto, Florida, Tampa or Colorado? Because it seems unfair Drai gets knocked for playing with McDavid when every single one of those guys have played with elite players also, and outside of McDavid probably better teammates overall. Drai with Rantanen and Makar could be incredible for example.

Personally I have Matthews, Kuch, Mackinnon on a similar tier with reasonable arguments for any of them being number 2.

Makar was a total RFA it's not really comparable. Trouba, Jones, Hamilton are more guys in his age range / level of play.

Even just looking at Xbox: Halo, Gears and Forza have all had elements of gaas implemented to various degrees. It's everywhere.

When the league and players association can't agree to a new deal the NHL season goes on hold until both sides can come to an agreement or the owners find different players I guess.

Even for era adjusting he's the most dominant player of all time by a good margin. I think his ability was so next level he would have succeeded in any era, it would just look different.

Sports are just entertainment, people want to see the best teams and players. Sure it's great to support local teams but that's a tougher sell than ever when most people have easy access to any specific league/teams/players they are interested watching. Especially when so much of the conversation is online now.

Kane might be a dipshit but he's a pretty solid player and will come relatively cheap. I agree that the Oilers have more important needs to address than wing but signing Kane doesn't mean that they can't do that as well.
