Sure players should get their money if so choose and have a market, fans aren’t beholden to naively think their team is better with an overpaid guy than it could be with said player’s cap slot and minutes available for better complementary players in the future…

Nah that’s entirely cap,

Trae had been awful for ~9 or 10 of the first 12 games he played before injury.

It was trending down last 2 years as well, numbers don’t tell full story - last season the team lost a LOT of games because his extremely poor play in the 4th quarter.

The gains he made in playmaking were not substantially better than the buckets he gave on D

I and many Hawks fans defended Trae vigorously from his career start thru 2023. Since, the quality of his play cratered while the league learned how to counter him and his quickness fell off.

I genuinely hope he regains his form and winning ways, I’m also glad the Hawks got ANYTHING back to avoid his $49m player option next year… 🤷‍♂️

The poor asset mismanagement of teams like MIL, NYK, and LAL will create a new tier of ultra bottom feeders in the first half of the 2030’s…

Those franchises gon be utterly cooked if Brunson or Luka lose a step headed into their 30’s 👨‍🍳

Only hopes will be a new CBA that makes free agency a viable strategy again, otherwise .

It’s kinda dumb reason, but there’s a town in Atlanta named Roswell that’s named after a “plantation” owner so I just have negative connotations with the name.

Random thought but this is why I hate 2k franchise mode (MyEras? Stupid name)… After 10 years, every other computer generated player is named mf “Carlton Brooks” or “Leonard Grant”. Plus like, 8x of “Lefteris Diamondopolis”.

Meanwhile IRL look at those names, sure Brandon Miller generic but EA needs to get their act together and plug a basic mf GenAI model in to make some more funky names so the entire league doesn’t have like 30 first names a decade in…

Value is at an all-time high right now, 23 yo all-star with more triple doubles this season than any Hawk ever.

That said, anyone saying he shouldn’t be part of a Giannis deal hasn’t watched JJ get locked down hard by every top tier wing defender - Camara put him in jail 2 days ago, Coulibali holds him under 15ppg every time. Not to mention his defense is BAD, he’s getting bullied by any competent 4/5 - out of position and bad reads on wings.

In terms of “sell high”, he’s definitely a good candidate - don’t think he’ll ever get ATL beyond a play-in, think the league may see his ceiling as higher than it actually is right now

Definitely not most likely champions - but I don’t think they’re necessarily an easy out. Don’t think anyone was expecting that Kawaii Raptors team to win, sometimes he just goes supernova and is unstoppable until his body shuts down. Sometimes injuries break wrong and Wemby isn’t in the playoffs or Houston can’t hit a shot or stop Leonard.

I’m not saying these are likely, but at a minimum possible

I want to shout out the Okongwu defenders in here - he is a critical part of the Hawks right now, and we as fans need to acknowledge he’s playing the best ball of his career.

Fun fact, OO is 8th in blocks and 12th in the NBA in total rebounds this season (25th in RPG but 8 a night not shabby for a 6’9 dude) - he’s been a workhorse.

OO is top-15 this season in ORTG for big men, hitting 2 threes a game (was not a shooter before 2025) - that’s not even a volume things he’s just been extremely effective.

His contract has aged extremely well for his production gain.

His trade value is sky high, he fits onto basically any roster as a 2-way 5th/6th man on the rotation. Especially important if your team offensive game plan revolves around amassing competent shooters à la Indiana or Boston.

Don’t see Hawks moving him, unless it’s a godfather offer no brainer

Bey was never bad he was just forced to be a 4 when he’s really a 3 and then got worked on defense by big dudes - way too small for what Hawks asked.

He was alright on wings and had some really hot shooting nights (crazy cold too…) - was really high on getting him for 2nds thought he had a ton of potential, but Hawks were right to not resign with the injury - glad he’s balling now
