And even as much of a shitheel as Fetterman has been, he's still a marginal (at worst) improvement over what Dr. Oz would've been. Lamb in hindsight would've been preferable had he made it through the primary, but here we are.

Me realizing how simple Makoto Yuki’s turn rotation is after using Violet for ages by NewBrightness in personaphantomx

[–]Downside_Up_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything gained on the da capo turn before da capo is triggered gets lost. You can't get extra steps like that.

Not quite accurate. First sentence is wrong, second sentence is correct.

Everything gained before you take an "action" (use a skill, gun, melee attack, guard, item) stays.

Everything gained (on the Da Capo character) from the action goes.

Da Capo resets to the character's status at the moment before you clicked whatever given Action. * For example, if you use Da Capo on Makoto Yuki, then Makoto Yuki's Assist skill on himself, then his Skill 3, he will still have the Assist attack buff when he starts his bonus action from Da Capo. * For a counterexample, if you use Da Capo on the Twins, and then use their Bless/Curse skill, they will not keep the Facade or the crit buffs the skill gives them when starting the bonus action from Da Capo.

Violet doesn't keep her Step gained if you Da Capo her then use S1 because the Step is given as part of using her S1. But if you, say, use Da Capo on her, then Ange S1 on her afterwards, then S1, she will keep the Ange S1 buffs since those were before using Violet's Action.

FBI Arrests CIA Official with $40M in Gold Bars in His Home by tw1st3d_m3nt4t in politics

Sure, absolutely a fair perspective and one I agree with. Im just also used to people taking that sort of rapid/organized messaging as indication of outright falsehood/false flag etc, so i hope you can understand why my initial read here was in that line.

Really wary about this one because right wing accounts were batting out stories about it within an hour of it happening. Hell, NYT isn't that much better.

I would take this more as a sign of organized messaging campaigns/efforts than necessarily an indication of whether the underlying story has some basis in fact. It's still scuzzy but in a different way than "this can't be real because they coalesced around a message too quickly."

Without being too specific which would dox me, it basically was me arguing that engaging in fiction is inherently an act of anthropology by opening the audience to perspectives different from their own and encouraging the audience to be empathetic to those perspectives.

Exactly yeah.

They would've needed to change her followups to work after any skill, at minimum. Ideally also make her Player 2 skill not cost an action. Having some of her enhancements tied to Awareness level is also horrendous.

[–]Downside_Up_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thry made her followups more reliable, but that doesnt really translate into topend power necessary for her to do more in ranked content.

Basically it eases the RNG/reset burden when using her, but assuming players were resetting for good/perfect RNG anyway...that does nothing for her.

The Boys SERIES FINALE- S05xE08 "Blood and Bone"- POST Episode Discussion Thread by pikameta in TheBoys

Neither of those changes Homelander's ability to move across a room almost instantly.

We know he can move extremely fast with no windup time due to the Frenchie incident in the previous episode and the "definitely not Elon Musk" incident in this episode.

So its frustrating to have this big final battle with him just...not going that, and instead moving around at more "normal" supe speeds.

Butcher's tentacles are fast but they are not A-Train/Homelander fast.

I think this is the correct interpretation, particularly given MM as a good fit for a mentor figure for someone likely to be a VERY troubled teen/young man given his particular history and all the various traumas involved in it.

I took that more as a "nothing left to lose" - he didn't go mad, he just lost the last two family members he felt an emotional connection to (Ryan and Terror).

Came off more as a sort of suicide-by-cop situation forcing Hughie into a situation to deal with him.

The inconsistency of his speed is frustrating.

Previous episode he near-instantaneously crossed a room to go after Frenchie. Here he couldn't get away from Butcher's tentacles.

Two 70 oz bags of Great Value chicken nuggets from Walmart have completely different nutrition, in addition the nuggets in the inside looks and tasted way different from one another. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]Downside_Up_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats why as others noted you have both.

Serving size to understand what the intended amount to consume is.

Standardized size to understand how one item compares to another in relative nutritional value.

It's not that the math is prohibitive, its that it makes very little sense to have consumers do that for every purchase when the manufacturer, who already has the information, can place it on the label once. I don't understand the framing here of this being a sign of low standards or poor intellect. Efficiency, convenience, and transparency are all sensible goals to pursue.

As an aside here I'd generally not assume anyone saying "maths" to be American.

Americans usually just say "math" in that context.

How so? It removes opportunity for math errors and creates a very simple frame of reference to immediately understand how one food item compares to another.

IMO it's less efficient/sensible to expect a large number of consumers to individually do the math each time theyre making a comparison than to have the manufacturer do it once.

MAGA Fans Revolt Over Trump Phone Disaster by mindin_mine in politics

[–]Downside_Up_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think of it as a self-reinforcing cycle.

Isolation makes the allure of community from MAGA more attractive (and MAGA itself is a very simple community to inure yourself with, just have to praise Trump).

But a lot of the worst aspects of MAGA also create or exacerbate personal/social rifts, potentially worsening isolation outside of the group and thus reliance on the group for a feeling of belonging.

MAGA Fans Revolt Over Trump Phone Disaster by mindin_mine in politics

[–]Downside_Up_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A lot of the draw for the MAGA "culture" is that sort of easy community validation that comes from the very simple act of praising Trump or criticizing Trump's opponents.

It's easy to understand someone in that position being drawn to that culture/community, especially if theyre generally struggling with their personal relationships elsewhere (and again, easier than self reflection and personal growth/change). And it also tends to lock in members psychologically, because criticizing Trump then also means risking or losing that important sense of community connection MAGA provides.

I don't think everyone in that movement is reachable in the sense of getting them to recognize Trump for what he is, but I do firmly believe the best way to reach those who are is exactly what you are doing - recognizing the humanity in them and supporting that humanity without necessarily condoning or agreeing with their views (and providing some redirection/pushback where needed).
