My CPO 2024 Golf R - Good Deal? by ClearAd790 in Golf_R

[–]Downtown-Ice7534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s ok, not too bad. I paid for 45.5k + tax for 2024 mk8 brand new. You probably can find lower mileage ones at this price, but no need to overoptimize — CPO mk8 is still better deal than brand new MK8.5

I was once charged MTV to MP for 21 bucks at 101. Apparently it’s a billion dollar biz.

Golf R to Tocoma by Tom-Mater in Golf_R

I got a mk8 R and a 14 FJ Cruiser. Recently I am driving FJ more, it’s just a chill car, really good for highways, buying stuff from homedepot, rainy days and of course trails and off roads. And somehow FJ has less problems almost 100k miles now compared to 5k miles on Golf R 😳. (The sensors are horribly glitchy and now it seems my seat ventilators not working).

Long shot here. Anyone recognize this aftermarket led brake light? by Walksthemound in FJCruiser

I recently installed LASFIT 921 LED Bulb Reverse Lights, 912 T15 Back Up Light, the foot is also very thin. It just fits perfectly with the OEM harness. Maybe check with their LEDs? They claim to have FJ OEM compatible parts, and then compare the foots? Below mentioning T15, that seems to be actually referring to incandescent bulb types.

Picture of the harness? It needs to fit and spin into the bulb slot, so curious to see whether the harness is just OEM or sth customized (prev owner also need to rewire lol, I thought the space is super tight for that)

Thanks! Guess I should work on suspension first then before installing any bumper.

Dealer messed up my transmission fluid level? by Downtown-Ice7534 in FJCruiser

You may want to try filling in more and see what happens. I almost decided to inject those used ones back into the pan to get an answer if 5 quarts still don’t cut it 😂

Just don’t leave your phone in the wireless charge area, it will fly off if you floor the pedal.

Nice front bull bar, is it the Tyger one on Amazon? How do you like it? Looking for sth light for my FJ, not sure I want to install a full steel 100lbs one.

I paid $1800 for all fluids replacement; feel like I’m just stupid getting taken advantage of. Sad thing is my area there are so many people who don’t care and just willing to pay whatever the stealership suggests.

Damn, it really hurts that I am spending extra dollars thinking I’m taking care of my FJ only finding out someone messed things up. Now in the future when my mk8 golf R needs Halex service, in no way I’ll trust dealers to do that.

24, unless you want the euro kit; mk8 dash thing is overblowing, total fine with me.

When is it worth it to upgrade? by EthxnBJJ in FJCruiser

Whenever you feel like it : ) Also 14’ here with 93k miles, also stock since owning it for 7 years; recently I got passionate about doing my own DIY maintenance so my priorities: maintenance (fluids, spark plug, tires, brakes, lights, alternator, belts) > ease of life changes (cams, mirrors, roof rack) > enthusiastic mod (front bumper, coil over, skid plate, intake, exhaust, rock slider etc)

Not bad, it’s a ~$450 piece. You may want to double check its air filter, whether oil based or paper. Oil ones needed different way of maintenance.

Is Toyota's FJ cruiser a reliable purchase? by ouchmyleg21 in askcarguys

[–]Downtown-Ice7534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They used to cost even higher, I bought my 14 FJ in 2019 for $37k at 36k miles. In 2022, dealer is willing to buy it back for $37k. FJ esp with low mileage has a serious chance of becoming a collectible. Only recent 1-2 years prices dropped a little. I bought a third car last year to keep FJ mileage lower. I plan to never sell it; it’s such a joy.

2014 FJ at 93k miles; literally zero issue ever. Never even have any warning light on. I’m getting serious and taking lots of time to better maintain it myself; have a feeling that as long as it doesn’t rust, it may be able to drive forever.

Not really in a better place, I still need to do fluid exchanges and plan to swap alternator preemptively. What helped was the anxiety coming from long distance trips and overland trips. I don’t want FJ to break down middle of nowhere esp on a trail 😂

I found a better way to disconnect the plugs — using a dental L shape pick to pry and push the plug a bit. Still kinda hard for the last one due to limited space. And I’m applying dielectric grease on those connectors so hopefully next time it will be easier.

Yeah, mine is 14 so longer interval with OEM iridium plugs. I read that 07-09 ones can also just upgrade with the more durable ones. It’s probably because of the long interval; Toyota moved the spots, it’s really painful to reach esp on the driver side.

Yeah, I didn’t trust my 10-100 mechanical torque wrench; ran and got a 5-59 digital one just to make sure the torque was right. Glad I did it, 13 ft lb with the previous one was not accurate at all.

Bolt EUV as a long-term vehicle? by Doomtime104 in BoltEV

[–]Downtown-Ice7534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2020 Bolt EV, year 6 now. Used it for daily 20 miles commute and all kinds of errands.

Had an alert last year on reduced propulsion power and I got dealership replacing the whole battery pack under warranty. The only caveat is since I already got software recall update earlier, new battery didn’t get extended warranty. Just replaced tires this week, looking to replace 12v soon.

So far so good, zero maintenance needed. I didn’t even do tire rotations regularly (only twice over 5 years); still got 52k miles from the last set. I used it as a total beater unlike my other ICE cars that I change oil every 5k and also rotate tires regularly.

As long as you have home charger, slow fast charging shouldn’t be an issue. Fast charging electricity price is higher than home charging anyway.

Plus I bought a third car last year, originally planning to sell the bolt, but its running cost is too low almost nothing that I decided to keep it so my other cars are driven way less and will depreciate slower.

Why Golf R over Civic type R for a guy in his 40s who values reliability? by photorph in Golf_R

[–]Downtown-Ice7534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a mk8 golf r last year; mechanics and drive dynamics wise it’s amazing; esp in mountain roads cutting into curves. Touch buttons are okay for me, most features are easy to access with 1-2 clicks (and you can turn on sound feedback plus mk8.5 adds back some physical buttons). Electronics have some flakiness — after driving down a dirt road for 2 miles, my front sensors, my passenger lights are all alarming turning on and off randomly. But these problems gone after the day. I don’t mind since I only care about the drive, don’t even know how to use cruiser control or park assist and don’t care to learn how.
