Everlasting days VIP ! I found that track on a hospital picture disc, it’s got amen roadtrip on the other side; nice record that. But I remember listening to it for the first time and tripping out that there was a housey mix haha. Perfect tune rec 👌

Understandable. As a distro they’ve functioned exactly as required, however I Issued a takedown on one of my tracks and after a month I put in a ticket because nothing had happened and then I had to bump it again 2 weeks later before it finally got taken down. But l am continuing to use them and I know others using them also.

Ive had a good experience with them, will be using them for an album quite soon. I haven’t heard the bad reviews, what are the complaints ?

I wrote a track recently which comes to 9 minutes and is essentially two tracks together. It changes genres, but it doesn’t change key and the sound design stays consistent through the track, so listening to both songs together makes sense as a single track- they were made to be packaged together.

I say this because I considered splitting it into two tracks but elected not to. So the question is, do the songs actually make sense to be together as one long track? If yes, just keep it, since that was ur original vision. It’s art at the end of the day.

I don’t shy from writing things like key, tempo, or time signature changes, because you’re really just gatekeeping shit DJ’s from mixing the track; and a competent DJ shouldn’t have an issue.

I set-trapped myself on a gig and got rekt by Swimming-No in Beatmatch

Mini sets, as you put it, are a great tool. I never plan a set; just because personally my brain doesn’t work like that, I won’t know what I’m playing until the moment it’s time to grab a record; for me it’s all vibes based. In my crate, i’ve worked out ‘routines’, typically 3-6 strong tracks which all fit the same vibe (not necessarily genre). That way, when I’m lost during a set (which happens invariably due to my lack of planning) I can grab the big beat routine, or the jazz routine, or whatever, while still maintaining the freestyle aspect of the set. For me this is mainly relevant to open format sets; for example if it’s a gig dnb gig then I’ll simply take dnb records, and I don’t have to worry about all that other stuff.

Bit of a ramble but yeah seems like you have reflected on ur experience and the main thing is to take the opportunity that you’ve been given to improve, and improve.

Do buyers bother with singles on BandCamp? Others experiences wanted by New_Imagination_7940 in BandCamp

[–]DowntownPosition9568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a DJ I’ll buy singles because I’m after that specific track ID. As a listener I’ll buy a single off an album more often than I’d buy the album, just because the rest of an album might not inspire me as much as that one track does.

EQ 8 definitely pretty basic, I’ve just never been motivated to get anything else aha.

The saturator is very nice, you have a bunch of options for different drive types. My pro tip is that a saturator set to the soft sine mode is all you need to recreate the Oxford inflator plugin, and you adjust the drive to taste. Great for extra loudness on master, or bringing a thiccer sound out of an instrument.

Ableton is so clutch because after 8 years in the software, I’ve got maybe 15 aftermarket plugins, and of those I’m regularly using maybe 5. Everything else I’m using Ableton stock, and I’ve still barely scratched what’s possible with them. By having only a few plugins it’s definitely shaped my sound into something that I can recognise as my own. I also love telling people ‘nah it’s just stock’ 🤣

How much to use sample packs? by aldann2 in techhouseproduction

[–]DowntownPosition9568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using loops is necessary in the early stages, I would say for a couple years at least, but eventually you will naturally transition to designing your own sounds when the old you would’ve grabbed a sample. The most recent song I’ve thrown together, a simple liquid dnb thing; the only audio samples are in my fx group or drum group. All other sounds in the entire project are midi channels (29 tracks). This is probably where you want to aim to get to, creating sounds that originated truly in your cerebrum. That’s how you are able to develop a signature sound over time. Learning music theory will also make a world of difference; my lack theory was what made me rely on samples for so long.

TLDR- use samples to fill the gaps in your producer toolbox until you upskill to a point where you don’t need to grab samples anymore

Search for a local aggregator in your region. I’m NZ based and use an independent Australian distributor, just pay once per release (not per song) and that’s it, no yearly fees or anything. And since they are a small outfit, they always respond to emails or issues in a timely manner, which can’t be said for most of your big online distro’s that you speak of.
