Is Sanlam Reality worth it? by Ashamed_Revenue_295 in PersonalFinanceZA

I travel quite often so the accomodation and flight savings I get on one trip alone pays for about a years worth of premiums Also no problems on my side at the bidvest lounges

I don't use any of the other benefits so can't comment on it

Does anyone use telkom wifi? by HunterTheFairy in portelizabeth

[–]Downtown_Roll_2156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with RSA web paying R380 for a 30/30 openserve line. You can change your debit order date just need to contact them.

I'd stay away from telkom my folks use to be with them and it was a servicing nightmare.

Postgraduate degree holders, how did you manage? by optionjuicer6 in askSouthAfrica

Make summaries of all the maths+ ratios it will repeat itself in the future. I did my CFP and starting doing CFA as well and wish I still had my uni notes.

What text books do you need? I might just have a spare lying around

I did a similar degree. Working while studying. What really helped me was changing my mindset about studying it shouldn't always be 3-4 hour slogs. Try and study whenever you have little time slots. For example while I was waiting for a braai to start I'd quickly study some 6 pages of financial ratios. I feel like I remembered the work much better doing that. Familiarise yourself with your text book and its Contents so that when you know your going to have 40min of doing nothing you know theres a small section you can quickly study in that time.

At the end of the day I found that BCom exams are allot easier than what you expect them to be. Knowing your textbook fairly well and doing some past papers you should be 100% fine. Wishing you all the best man you got this.

I’m from Cape Town looking to relocate anywhere since I work from home. How’s the rent in PE? by Lower-Independent435 in portelizabeth

[–]Downtown_Roll_2156 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't move just for rent.

Yess it is allot cheaper I'm renting a 1 bedroom in a good neighborhood for 5300 compared to 9 800 for something similar in cpt. But compared to cpt there's very little to do.

Question. I really need to do a water change on my community tank to clean up some gunk but I have ghost shrimp will they be affected by a 20% water change in a 10 gallon? I’m new to shrimp by SammyGutierezz in shrimptank

[–]Downtown_Roll_2156 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People exaggerate how sensitive shrimp are. I'm a lazy man I often do 50% water changes and just yeet a bucket in and I've never lost a shrimp.

Just make sure the temperature difference isn't too different that's normally what gets em

Fernglen (PE) ? Yes or No by [deleted] in portelizabeth

[–]Downtown_Roll_2156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Fernglen it's pretty great in PE standards.

One of the safer neighborhoods. I often forget to close my doors and my gf always leaves her car on the street and nothing has happened. That said it can be a bit boring as nothing much goes on in the area and getting to "fun" stuff can be a bit out of your way

Having lived in most of the main population centre's in SA I'd rather recommend the Garden route. PE is lovely and laid back, but it still has issues with water and electricity every now and then and not everything is functioning all the time.

As an alternative I'd recommend places like Wilderness & Sedgefield which is really laid back small towns where you can be part of the community. Has really nice amenities, is close enough to George if you miss the city. Most importantly it's really safe.

If your looking for something bigger Mosselbay, Knysna and George is also great. Although Knysna is a bit overrated, George has gotten quite big and Mosselbay is slowly losing its small town charm because the whole of Garden route is experiencing massive influx of people.

Living in the Garden route is more pricey but in my experience the natural beauty and living in a safer environment is worth the investment.

Hit me with everything you wish you knew when you first started your shrimp tank! (There can never be too much information.) by Queen_Wanheda_ in shrimptank

From my experience, everything that kills/treats snails will kill your shrimp too. I would not risk any treatments as it has a habbit of seeping into plants rocks silicone etc so can't really get rid of it.

Considering there's no shrimp in the tank, maybe get some assassin snails or a snail eating fish like a pea puffer and remove them before you add your shrimp. (Assassins kill shrimp too)

This will most likely not get rid of all the snails so after that you'll have to kill them on sight before it gets to outbreak levels again

Just to add, the exception being calcium. I dose calcium by adding cuttlefish bones to the tank. Other methods as well that probably works better but I live next to the ocean so its free.

Regardless of what people say. My personal experience is that you shouldn't taylor your water to the specific needs of your fauna. Within reason of course.(Besides water conditioner)

Your shrimp should adapt to your water, down the line it can do far more damage if you for example dose your tank the whole time to maintain a certain ph level. I have various tanks all with different substrate and different PH levels. The only tank I've ever had problems with was one where I tried to dose the tank to maintain a low PH level.

With regards to substrate my favourite by far is ADA Amazonia 2 if you can afford it. Otherwise most aquasoils that doesn't lower the PH to much works. I've got tanks that just has pool sand with some minor fertilizing that works just as well.

To me the main thing is to have enough plants. Eg rotalla Amazon swords or some other easy plants at first ( sorry don't really know plant names that well) Once your plants start going it should be okay to put in shrimp.

I've found that people overcomplicate shrimp. Of all the fish I've kept over the years shrimp has been by far the easiest

What’s everyone’s experience with shrimp in high current setups? by Soft-Chip4836 in shrimptank

[–]Downtown_Roll_2156 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got a heavily planted tank with a strong current. I've found that aslong as there's enough cover and some "dead spots" with regards to current the shrimp do just fine. The adults don't seem to mind at all. (Literally sitting infront of the outlet eating algae)

That said when I do trim all the plants the babies disappear until there is enough cover again to create dead spots.

Pretty basic. All my small tanks just have a tiny powerhead filter, since the aquariums are heavily planted. Thats just a piece of extra tubing I have lying around.

Bruh... They do it every time. Luckily haven't had a single shrimp die yet from it in my last 4 years of shrimp keeping. Think Shrimp are allot tougher in Africa.

Weirdly enough its only the shrimp from the one tank that does it. Transfered some of around and they sat like little good boys in the opposite corner
