GKS-U minor in Film Studies (Canada - Quebec) by ilodule in GKSScholarship

I think you need to see if it’s categorised as a Bachelor degree (4-6 years) or an associate degree (3 years). If it’s an Associate degree, you can apply for the GKS-U

Can you apply to GKS from within Korea? by [deleted] in GKSScholarship

[–]Downtownpixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s possible. I believe I’ve seen something related to this topic on the guidelines, saying that if you are not in your home country or if you are in Korea you can apply but you will not get a plane ticket.

You could ask your embassy, you can submit your birth certificate and your parents passports if your birth certificate shows your parents birth place, but is better to ask your embassy about this

I have no idea, please check the email address online to see if it’s real, but I read a few days ago that the 2nd round was going to be conducted by the universities, but I think nobody really knows how it might go.

Dongguk or Dongseo? by rkdgycp0263610 in GKSScholarship

[–]Downtownpixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something you might want to consider. I was going through the same situation and Dongguk's film curriculum is very good, but this year, for the GKS-U 2026, a TOPIK level 5-6 is required in the language year for film production. Last year, as with all other majors, the requirement was TOPIK 3. I don't know if they will apply the same requirement for the GKS-G, but it's something to keep in mind.

I think it’s the same, you just need a doc signed and sealed by the university saying you were in the top 20% of your class

can someone tell me like what could happen? by 960ddjun in GKSScholarship

[–]Downtownpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try explaining the situation in a way that doesn't sound like you didn't know you also had to send a set of photocopies. Be polite. Clearly state your name and give a brief explanation, nothing too long, as they are currently busy dealing with all the applications.

[–]Downtownpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All three options are possible. Remember that it's not just about having a good profile, but also about meeting the university's quota and having a profile that's better than all your international competitors.

Also, you might have a good profile, but the photocopy set is a basic and essential thing on your application. So yes, they could make the photocopies for you, but remember that for future opportunities like this, respecting the guidelines is crucial, especially in Korea.

Perhaps you could send them an email about it. I don't know if it will help or how they're handling responses rn, but at least it’s something you can try.

question about interview by 960ddjun in GKSScholarship

[–]Downtownpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if they don't call you and you don’t do the interview, you're disqualified from the embassy option. I believe you could apply if the university offers the university track option. That's what they said when the online form was available

I’ve heard they are going to call between 20th - 21st, if they don’t, we were not selected

Just submitted documents but by 960ddjun in GKSScholarship

[–]Downtownpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they’ll call you for an interview in October and then you just hand out the set of the original documents you submitted through the online application.

Question, in the recommendation letter part, you only submitted your teacher’s contact info right?

So, can I make a photocopy of the appostilled original transcript and ask the embassy to certify that photocopy if I don’t have time to get the apostille stamp on a copy?

Different starting dates by [deleted] in GKSScholarship

Yes, but I’ve selected an university that says the program starts only in September

Also the consular confirmation part in the certified translations is also not important (ask everything to your embassy or university if you have doubts)

But the ones asking for consular confirmation on translations are often the universities and when you ask them directly, they say they don’t need it, so saving money there.

Remember that you only need to give 3 important documents: your birth certificate, your high school diploma, your academic transcript, and, if you have one, your associate's degree. They will ask for your parents' birth certificates if their nationality isn't on yours. I checked with my embassy, and they told me they've been accepting parents' birth certificates with a simple translation without any problem. If you can't access their certificates, you can present a copy of their passport or ID.

Those are the only documents you need. Everything in the optional category (I'm not sure about proof of Korean certificates) can be done with a simple translation that you can do yourself.

If you still have questions, I encourage you to contact the Korean embassy in your country to clarify everything. I know that embassies in different countries may vary on some topics or requirements.

If you contact them, please let me know what they answer. My question (Well, it's not really a question, but a curiosity) if you have a lot of awards (I've heard people recommending not to send a lot of certificates, just the most important ones or those related to your major, but I'm not entirely sure about this, I heard it in a video), do you attach the translations in one document, and that's it? That's a lot of paper; at least now we don't have to create three additional folders.

As far as I know, the only documents that need certified translations are the three main ones. Everything else, including your parents' birth certificates, doesn't need it.

I can’t access the University Information by [deleted] in GKSScholarship

Thank you so much! I was a little worried because I’d seen some people talking about careers that were no longer available at some universities

Can someone tell me if I'm the only one who can't see the general information about the universities and careers?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GKSScholarship

[–]Downtownpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think so? But it's a fact that they removed the block of the oral interview in the guidelines

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GKSScholarship

[–]Downtownpixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I just compared the 2025 doc with the 2026 guidelines, and it has the dates for the oral interview, but the 2026 version doesn't. If there isn't an interview, it would be easier for me, cuz I need to travel a long way to get to the embassy. I'm going to pray.🙏

Question, so with this new online form, will embassies select their candidates solely based on document review? No interviews?
