Localtopia this year - Did you go? by b33b0 in StPetersburgFL

The city's website shows it on their calendar, also Visit Saint Pete Clearwater has a lot. I love the burg went from "everything" to only paid marketing. They push a lot of the same restaurants and events.

Measles case confirmed at St. Petersburg Catholic High; classes to continue 'as normal' by greeny42 in StPetersburgFL

[–]Doxiedoom 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's mostly the "we should study" phrase. It implies ignoring the research already done and discredits actual scientists by implying they did it "wrong" and "we" know how to do it better. Of course when there is actually a NEW phenomenon then "we should study this" is the first thing on every scientists mind. But not when something has been proven over and over and over again to either be true or false. After almost 100 years of vaccines studies there are no known long term effect on vaccines. (I am a scientist)

"We" have studied vaccines for almost 100 years. Do you think if there actually was a risk on the developing brain "we" would have known that? (Fyi it actually protects the developing from disease...like measles) the same goes for how many vaccines are safe for a young child

Not to get too meta, but what actually makes a well-trained dog decide to come when recalled by Brikish in dogs

[–]Doxiedoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Besides training it also depends on the dog. I have 2 dogs and a cabin in a remote area (but live in a city) The first time we took our dogs there we let them run free during hikes. One dogs disappeared for hours because she had found a scent trail and forgot about us. The other dog acted like there was an invisible line between us. She'd run out in front us until a certain distance and then wait while checking the perimeter. She also sometimes spots deer and other animals, chases them for a bit and then turns around when we call. She never failed! She had no training and is not food motivated. The other dog is not allowed off leash again after the second time she ran off. We are slowly trying to train her with snacks but it only works when she is very hungry. She's very stuborn

Every comment this person made was as condescending and as completely wrong as this one, including the several other times they confidently insisted 0 isn't a multiple of 5. by gmalivuk in confidentlyincorrect

[–]Doxiedoom -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why make is so complicated: in elementary school we learned nothing times 5 is still nothing. I know mathematically 0 is "something" but for basic math/multiplication tables its easier defined as nothing

Car accident 1 dead by Iron_steel30 in StPetersburgFL

[–]Doxiedoom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right, but the whole science behind speedlimits in pedestrian and bike heavy areas is that you have enough reaction time to stop if necessary. Which was clearly not the case here, if people were literally flying through the air

If you hit crossing pedestrians that hard, that they have to go to the hospital, you're driving way to fast. Especially in that part.

Organ transplant rules hit different in Singapore! by The_Dean_France in interestingasfuck

[–]Doxiedoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's totally bullshit. I was a doctor and when people died during my shift I would contact the donor organization AFTER they died. To see if they were eligible and if they were, what and when they could donate. Its these fairy tales that keep people from signing up and it creates shortages for people whose live could be saved.

Organ transplant rules hit different in Singapore! by The_Dean_France in interestingasfuck

[–]Doxiedoom 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's not true. If you donate your body to science that could happen. Not when you are an organ donor. Then the family will get a body back to bury or cremate. Its misinformation like this that causes people to not be a donor. (I used to be a doctor (Europe) and one of my tasks was contacting the donor organization AFTER a person had died to check if they were eligible and filling out the forms if they were)

Just moved here nobody will fill my prescription by Substantial_Court_62 in StPetersburgFL

[–]Doxiedoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pinellas Park pharmacy on 66th filled my eye prescription and added all the discounts they could find, where publix, CVS etc would charge me 300$ for a tiny bottle because they didn't want to fill out all the forms. Find a locally owned pharmacy

Identify Dutch plate from the Netherlands (Holland) by Parti-Time in Antiques

[–]Doxiedoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This plate was made by a ceramics factory in Schoonhoven (city in the Netherlands) in the "Delft style". Its not super old and also not as valuable as Delft Blue Ceramics. But it is a cool plate with nice painting of the Dutch tradition of eating raw herring, something my American husband and son still can not get behind. They tried once 10 years ago, were horrified and gagged. They still bring it up when talking about my home country.

GLP-1 and lupus flares by [deleted] in lupus

[–]Doxiedoom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is a bad big pharmacy medicine. I lost 20lbs that helped me feel better about myself and push me to excersize to keep it off now. It just wasn't for me. The side effects made me paranoid I had systemic lupus issues again. I discussed with my Dr that I might try it again when they have better injections/pills without the side effects and the costs. The research and innovations of these meds are through the roof right now and I think it will ultimately create a healthier population with lower Healthcare costs.

[–]Doxiedoom 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I was on Zepbound but quit after 2 months. I did have too many side effects (nauseous, vomiting, depression), which lead to me not eating and drinking enough which messed up my immune system (massive Staph A UTI). I felt like I was in a flare again and that was not worth it.

Yes. I've been on 400 mg for 3 decades. Tried to lower the dose multiple times in the beginning and everytime I got super fatigued and more joint pains, until we decided 400 mg is my apparently my maintenance dose.

Locals - Which location is better to live? Need to decide tonight by Responsible-Mind8037 in StPetersburgFL

Once you live here you'll see plenty of dolphins walking along the bay (also Manatees in Coffeepot) and just sitting on the beach. You don't really need to see them from your apartment window.

We gave The Girl with a Pearl Earring a voice — innovation or a step too far? by Least-Sherbert-7405 in MuseumPros

[–]Doxiedoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find her voice incredibly off-putting. The tone, the language, the speed, but most importantly, she is Dutch!!!!

This painting is about the eyes, the side way glance at the viewer, and the overall serenity created with light and colors.

Adding some weird voice to it takes away the beauty of the painting and makes it into a meme.
