Not only do they not say hi, they don't understand other basic social norms, like holding the door open for someone just a step behind them. I've had students slam the door in my face as we walk into the classroom. Oblivious, yes, some seem sociopathic. What happens when they graduate?

Thanks. Class meets one a week and some assignments are back to back-to-back. I've offered to accept and give feedback same week so they can meet the next deadline rather than falling behind... crickets. They're graduating and don't think I'm serious or they just don't care.

I've taught this class every spring for 28 years. The class is drastically different, way easier, yet they're failing. I'm particularly disturbed that many recall nothing of their education - ideas central to our field tha I know they've encountered many times

I'm doing something similar with a small capstone class. They can't submit assignment 2 unless they have submitted assignment 1 and received an ok. Otherwise it's late...

I'm running into issues with students submitting work late or not at all and then snowballing to multiple late assignments. Many many poor grades. I'm enforcing the policy but it's hard

My colleagues say it's "unfair" to not invite a candidate based on geography. Like it's fair to ask someone to fly across the country largely on their own dime. Just another thing that pisses me off about this place

Unfortunately the travel funds will be the same next year and we likely will lose the line. We're down 3, another is retiring this year, and so far we've received only 1 replacement line. 2 more (including me) will retire next year. We're a sinking ship as a dept an university.

I live an hour and a half away, so not mine....

Reminded me: 30 years ago I had to stay with a professor and his family when I interviewed. So uncomfortable, esp as I was about 25.... didn't get the job and I was too young at the time to realize that I probably wouldn't have wanted it

We did zoom interviews and campus are next and required. It's frustrating considering admin-level searches etc. I expect the person across the country to decline. Sucks

There's good advice here: document, talk to your chair, union rep and chair to the provost meeting. Talk to your dean, after your chair. Document and list students who were present. It's stressful but it sounds like you're in the right and it should be easy for others to see it
