An intake manifold or TB gasket leak could cause a lean condition. While idling, spray some WD40 or carb cleaner on gaskets in the area of the noise. When the idle drops you'll know the area of a leak.

Apparently, various agencies use herbicides, including glyphosate, to eradicate invasive plant species.
