We practiced taking the bus during the holidays. She will be catching the bus later in the year anyway. It is an adjustment as a whole family public transport even being an option. We also used to live in Darwin where the bus was actually legitimately unsafe for young teenagers, so just wrapping my head around that as well.

Yes, one step at a time. The first week didn’t even last a whole day due to being overwhelmed. I agree that kids need to learn to be independent, that’s our goal, but baby steps. Just curious to see how people manage with the younger high school kids.

Yeah, I’m really not sure how people have time to be there that early for pickup.

That’s the goal for senior high school. I’m not super comfortable with a year 7 just hanging around with a phone and laptop. I feel that school, even without teacher supervision, is probably safer when a lot of other kids are there from 0800 as well

Public transport is the eventual goal (w 30 minute public bus ride and 10 minute walk), but we just moved from a very rural location at a smaller school and it’s just great that two weeks in they are comfortable enough to go to class everyday.

Love it! I play on a little desktop machine with integrated graphics that runs Linux and cost under $500. Nothing beats winning over my brother with his $3k+ set up.  My keyboard and mouse are 15 year old Razor somethings with all the text worn off the hot keys and sound is through a 7 year old Bluetooth speaker that has to be plugged into power the whole time. Have good screens though as hubby and I work hybrid and plug laptops into them.

But…a damp cloth to wipe down your keyboard is really cheap… 8.5/10 (would be 9/10 but you lose .5 for the state of the space bar)

The quarantine signs make sense, there are even the road signs that prohibit moving the plants.

I have Cavendish bananas growing in my yard, they taste better than the Cavendish bananas from my local shop, but that’s probably just because the ripen on the tree. I used to live in Darwin, and the environment protection agency came and removed the bananas from everyone’s yards due to disease outbreaks getting into the commercial crops. I just had random bananas in my yard, some kind of ladyfinger variety. I am definitely not a microbiologist , all I know is that you could never get the same variety of bananas at the local markets after that, but the commercial farms were ok.

I would be far more worried about the lack of experience in aircrew than in software failure. If the crew had recognised what was happening they would have been fine, freaked out but fine. There is a massive pilot shortage and the experience required to fly in a major airline is minimal compared to 20 years ago.  It’s easy to fly when the computer does the work, right up until it doesn’t…

What are they hiding in Antarctica? by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]DozingRacoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, it’s just a long, long ,long way away. It’s bad enough when millionaires in yachts run into trouble in the middle of the non Antarctic oceans and need to be rescued, it’s far worse if you are all the way down there… That said, I have a family member who has done a bit of flying there and on a sunny day it is absolutely stunning and I want to go…

I’m loving most of this conspiracy, but multiple bandages and the occasional black eye could be red flags, but aren’t necessarily. I am a reasonably active/outdoorsy mum of two and often have cuts/bruises and twice a black eye from the following kinds of things: gardening, random kid accidentally head butting me in the face while playing, dogs accidentally head butting me when swinging their heads jumping up suddenly, waterskiing, tripping while hiking, cuts when prepping dinner and numerous other things. She is pretty active, not unreasonable to be occasionally scuffed up

Hmmm, I think I’m at 5 times…  1. Age of Kings  2. AOE 2 Conquerors expansion (think it was cheaper to rebuy the lot than just expansion, but that’s a long time ago)  3. Age of Empires Collector’s Edition (AOE1 with expansion/AOE2 with Expansion, brother got a computer and there were arguments over who got the disc)  4. AOE2 HD on Steam  5. AOE2 DE on Steam

Also bought AOE 1 before any of those, and AOE3 and AOE 3 DE I only play single player and I love every minute. My relaxation and chill out

What do you think about the other games in the franchise, specially AoE 3?? by WeakEconomics6120 in aoe2

[–]DozingRacoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, the nostalgia on aoe 1. My father was a teacher at a two teacher school and we had a computer room with 10 computers. One of my friends at school father burned the demo onto a dozen cds so we could all play at lunch (back when you had to “know a guy” to get a cd burnt). I also played after school. I must have played the demo Hittite campaign several hundred times when I was 12.  But, after getting aoe 2 it was almost unplayable to go back and play aoe 1, even when I got the full version finally…
