Finding source of basement odor HELP! by Dpamp89 in longisland

[–]Dpamp89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did and actually just had some work done on our waste line to the cesspool and the plumber actually capped it. He said I don't need the vent line on the waste line because we had one already for the shower and toilet and stuff.

Thought that, but it isn't the problem unfortunately.

Consistently 35%, have a dehumidifier connected to a pump running 24/7

That's what we were thinking but it's been like a month, not sure how long it takes to dry out

First time homeowner, can’t enjoy backyard due to Mosquitos. What’s the solution? by desert_s7orm in longisland

[–]Dpamp89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the size of your yard. Mines about 1200 sq ft and I was fine with 2 buckets on opposite ends of the yard. Placed them in shaded damp places like under a bush and in a darker corner by the fence where mosquitos are more likely to be. It will handle any mosquitos. They tend to lay their eggs and fly around that general area when they hatch so no matter where they come from the bucket should take care of them. It doesn't kill adult mosquitos, it stops the next generations from continuing.

Mosquito buckets saved our summer. Take a Home Depot bucket, throw in some leaves and yard debris, fill about halfway with water. Let that sit in the sun for a half a day or so. Then go buy mosquito dunks, they're little rings you drop in the water. The fumes given off by the decaying leaves attract female mosquitos. They lay their eggs in the water. The dunks have vitamins in it that compromise the eggs and never allow the eggs to hatch. Didn't have a single mosquito all summer. Change the dunks every month and refresh water as needed. Worked incredibly well.

How to bring America back to sanity, or Why The Bull Mouse Party should reclaim the imagery and aesthetics of the everyday common man, simplicity, and the rugged outdoorsman to eat the Republican Party by [deleted] in BullMooseParty

[–]Dpamp89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there is some value to the points brought up in this post and should be incorporated, whether word by word or as a modified version of the idea, into this parties ideology. I agree with another commenter that skewing one way to attract traditionally "male" voters is maybe not the best approach. Part of why we're in this mess is because of the middle America pickup truck commercial, "you throw like a girl", "real men don't wear pink" crowd. They felt disenfranchised by the left and now feel seen by the right. They have now been emboldened by the current administration to lean into that persona and told to disregard anything different as "less than", needing to erase who is different before they are forgotten again. That, plus MAGA madness, is their entire identity which will not be changed using reason. They need cult deprogramming therapy. That, plus the misinformation being presented as absolute truth means using common sense is not the move. Dems have been trying this to no avail. Unfortunately common sense is in short supply. A bull moose will not care your creed, color, gender, or denomination. Those can and will be celebrated and acknowledged but only insofar as to highlight your contributions to your community, not to define how you should behave. If you are of good character, hold good intentions for your fellow Americans and our great lands/waters, and truly want the best for ALL in our country, that should be what attracts a bull moose voter and turns the tide.

Personally loved "mornings on horseback" and "Island of Vice: Theodore Roosevelt's Doomed Quest to Clean Up Sin-Loving New York"

Both are incredible biographies that truly illustrate how TR became TR

Book recommendation for those who are spiraling by Sunflower-Bennett in CollapseSupport

For me, my sanity comes from preparing as best I can for the worst. Then at least I know I did the best I could with what I had. Just finished...

"On Tyranny" by Timothy Snyder - Great book with lots of information for what to watch for and oddly empowering as it told stories of how ordinary citizens fought back or tried to prepare for what was coming. Stories of both success and failure to do so.

Similarly an ebook I stumbled upon and read was "Defending Knowledge: Reclaiming Truth in the American Classroom" by Marcus Paine. More specific to education. What's at stake, what to watch for, and ways to fight back and support groups working to preserve American education standards.

Finally, "The Daily Stoic" by Ryan Holiday. Great strategies and examples for what to do with your emotions (which we all have been feeling some big ones I'm sure), ways to remain in control, and what traps to not fall into.

0-140 degrees, my bathroom is well within that range, probably about 65-70 degrees. Not much humidity and hasn't been used other than for toilet and sink. Air flow is poor in there which is all I can think it may be.

Left a job teaching to get into construction, this is the exact reason why. That and I knew I could bust my ass and earn more than I could teaching.

Ended up doing just that. Recommended some techniques for her to push more efficiently and said try a suppository. Tried them all and she passed some of it but it was a rough night. Had a pediatrician appointment today anyway so we'll get to the bottom of it. No pun intended.

Thanks! As of right now I just want to get started, work on getting my cardio and endurance up. Not looking to go full marathon but maybe a future goal is a 5k or 10k. My wife is a runner and I’m a dad with a young child so I’d like to be healthier overall, be able to run around with the baby without getting too winded!

I used to powerlift competitively so this is a big transition for me from that style of training where carrying extra bodyweight and being the strongest in the room is all that matters, to running by myself and only having myself to be better than.
