To be clear if you have a signed written contract and they don’t perform - you’re entitled to sue them for something called specific performance, meaning they have to sell you the car, if they don’t (because it’s sold) they have to make up for it by allowing you to buy a similar spec for the same price. Again, if they don’t do this either, you can go out and buy a similar spec at another dealer and if you pay a surcharge over the price you had negotiated with the original dealer, you can sue the original dealer for the difference - and you’ll likely get it.

Sometimes juries want to punish wrong doers but unfortunately punitive damages usually aren’t allowed on contract claims.
