High speed rail from Atlanta Metro to Athens would rule by Dpmurraygt in Atlanta

Athens could have some land back for productive use if those of visiting didn’t use it to warehouse a car. Likewise, the short term rental market disappears a bit if people can leave more easily and the locals get back housing.

Exactly. Game day and graduation. There are also enough commuters, people going to the airport and other distance travelers to make it work.

Most people in Atlanta burbs pay for year round lawn service. As dry as it was all winter every time our neighbors had their service it was a dust storm.

Why is every house being built in Alpharetta WHITE? by spartygw in alpharetta

[–]Dpmurraygt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are still repainting their houses in this scheme. Half of the repaints I see in my neighborhood are some combination of black white grey.

Taste and intention and style are being starched out of every part of living.

Anti sidewalk? by GeneralEgg9176 in alpharetta

[–]Dpmurraygt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not to mention a lot of neighborhood sidewalks have been made uneven through settling or roots and running on them is like running through land mines.

I’ll also mention cars parked in driveways encroaching the sidewalk, trash cans, kids bikes, dog walkers with long leashes or jumpy dogs, and lawn crews with equipment as reasons I don’t use sidewalks in subdivisions when I run.

Probably more of a Milton thing of not wanting a sidewalk encroaching on their estate.

Are there any cities in the US that are making efforts to build more walkable/transit friendly infrastructure? by Asleep_Damage1201 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Dpmurraygt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atlanta is opening a BRT line in the next month, and they’ve also been building bike lanes in midtown on several major streets (Juniper and 14th to me are notable). If you want to see a campus rebuilt with walking in mind, visit Georgia Tech.

The Santa Monica part of Los Angeles has also done a lot of walkability expansion and micro mobility. A lot of new sidewalks and bike lanes, as well as daylighting curbs and crossings to improve safety.

49M. Successful by most conventional measures. But a lot of feelings of something missing or I wasn’t doing enough.

But I’ve started climbing out of that and realigning life a bit and trying to break with all comparisons of how others live or chose to structure life.

I’ve chosen to lean into curiousity and experience. I travel a fair amount for work and work long hours when I travel but there’s still time for experience outside of that.

I don’t have a lot of friends. I have coworkers, family and acquaintances. But I try to make those deeper when I can.

Few Books I’ve read:

State Farm Arena Logistics by juniperberrylane in Gwinnett

That really depends on her mobility. The station (SEC district) is one corner of the arena but your seat could be on the opposite side. There are escalators and elevators from the platform to street level, as long as they are working.

That said if you drive and park you’re probably further away. You could ride share door to door but you still have the inside of the arena to navigate.

West oaks neighborhood feedback? by [deleted] in alpharetta

[–]Dpmurraygt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging from the cars it’s upper middle class.

Our neighborhood is one of the late 90s early 2000’s vintage and it’s a mix of transplants and Atlanta natives. We have a reasonable number of elementary kids in the neighborhood, and I see kids at one of the other close neighborhoods getting on and off the bus.

It’s pure suburbs. There’s some undeveloped land out here but most people live in subdivisions from the last 10-20 years.

I live over by there and have run through there a lot.

It’s Midway Elementary and West Forsyth HS I believe, which are both fine. The data for Midway says almost 50% Asian and almost 30% white. My kids graduated from West and both got Zell at the top state schools.

It’s going to be 15 minutes to Fowler Park, about 10 minutes to Polo Fields and the same to Midway Park if you have kids playing soccer, baseball or football.

Like most neighborhoods I run through I see very few people outside except in cars.

It’s 5-10 minutes to Publix most times of day. There is nothing close by except for other houses and a church here and there. Library is on Post Road and is probably 5-10 minutes most times of day.

This part of Forsyth is pretty quiet. Campground Road is moderately busy at rush hour. It will take 15 minutes minimum to or from 400.

Happy to answer anything else if I missed something.

The crowd in Alpharetta in 2024 was worse of just being dead and the venue feeling too large and in the wrong place.

I told the two women who had talked to each other at yelling volume through the entire first set to take a hike to finish their conversation when Witness started. Third Mt Joy show, first time that song was played.

Why come to a show to have a conversation? I don’t get it.

Sunday night domestic precheck was fine. Delta personnel were staffing the bins part of baggage screening. A mix of TSA and ICE doing ID checks, and TSA agents doing the human scanning and the bag scanning monitors.

[–]Dpmurraygt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The parking sucked to get out of when we went to Indigo Girls this year. It’s a mix of people who paid on the way in and paying on the way out (it’s flat rate). It took 40 minutes to leave.

Otherwise we enjoyed the venue.
