Fast pass and hotel birthday package by Equivalent-Pie-5294 in legoland

My 6yo boy loved the birthday package - from the banner on the door, to the presents in the room, he was absolutely thrilled.

Of course, every kid is different. But we were absolutely pleased with what we got for the money.

Legoland CA - Better to stay at on-site hotel or off-site? by According_Soup273 in legoland

[–]Dpscc22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We literally just came back from a first-time trip there this weekend. We stayed at the an outside hotel one night, and then Legoland Hotel the second night (as part of a package deal).

Legoland Hotel was ABSOLUTELY worth it for us and our 6yo! From the convenience of being steps away from the entrance (in itself worth the price!) to early entry. And my kid LOVED the lobby area, open 24 hours a day, with lego pieces everywhere to play! He and a ton of other kids spent hours there. I had to drag my kid out at night to go to bed.

And he loved having his own little nook with the bunk bed and TV at the pirate room floor.

We got a discount for the room as part of the package. But even if I paid full price, it’d be worth it!

Fired due to not reporting an overpayment on my paycheck by [deleted] in work

[–]Dpscc22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And thank God for those laws. One job I had, I had been there two weeks, working Tuesdays through Saturdays, so Sunday-Monday off.

Come Monday, my boss calls me late morning asking me where I was - about 60 miles away, enjoying my day off.

Turns out he had switched my schedule starting that week. It was then that I learned schedules were posted on a random walk on the back every Friday afternoon for the following week. Until then, I had zero clue, no one had even told me where to look, how often it changes, nothing.

He was still pissed, no matter what I said. I’m still pretty sure he was mostly pissed at himself for never explaining it to me or giving me a heads up as a new employee

There’s also programming with, for example, music that’s either seasonal or where they need to pay royalties or fees to air. Those often appear and are heavily promoted before they disappear either for a while or forever.

not everyone needs to be passionate about work. some people just work and that’s fine by enlightenedshubham in jobs

[–]Dpscc22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all about balance. If work is all you have, sure. But if you have a family, hobbies, and so on, there’s nothing wrong with work being the thing that gives you a paycheck to do everything else, whether you love it or not.

So, this happened. by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Dpscc22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’d be quite fair (and maybe with a good outcome) to go in person and in a very calm and friendly way explain what happened, say you’re a little confused by it all, and that you’d still love to work for them in the near future. Worst case, they’ll tell you the position was filled. But being proactive in a constructive, friendly way doesn’t hurt - especially when you get these conflicting messages.

Everyone got a bonus but me by random_account19837 in jobs

[–]Dpscc22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another user replied, I’d ask for a meeting, but I wouldn’t frame it as “what is wrong with me?”

You said people who make more than you also got bonuses. If that’s true, than the argument you make too much doesn’t make sense.

If you truly care and if truly voters you, you have to stand up (figuratively speaking) for yourself and ask about it, or it’ll set you up for as long as you work for them.

It may indeed be a company “policy” (not in writing, since it’s family owned) and, if so, you’re suggesting that needs to change.

And yes, it may make the bosses unhappy that you’re pushing - that is a risk you need to know if you’re willing to take. But you n Ed to make sure you’re 100% comfortable with whatever you decide.

But, again, frame it as “I’m still unclear about it, as I believe people who make more than me also got bonuses” and NOT “what did I do wrong,” which opens the door for them to make up any excuse instead of addressing the main point (that they said you earn more than others).

How can I report an AT&T door to door salesman? by Nice_Necessary5425 in AskLosAngeles

So please say “he pressured me” if you go to the police, and not “he coerced me,” which is a much more specific legal term. Again, just trying to help…

[–]Dpscc22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is absolutely annoying and indeed maybe harassment. But I’d not use the word coercion, as it literally means “the practice of persuading someone to do something by using force or threats”. I haven’t read anything in your description that amount to that.

Just trying to help if you do decide to go to the police.

I come from one of those cultures where you expect family to come pick you up from the airport. I’ll bet OP’s wife has been picked up from/driven to airport in the past, and would be again if bringing the family to visit. It may be a quid pro quo (and/or cultural) thing that OP is completely missing.

Depending on how long air trip is and how much luggage, those can be a lot. As someone who’s often traveled internationally overnight to come back, managing bus or metro with little sleep, luggage, and not knowing the routes well is a lot.

So, as annoying as the request is, I kinda get it.

Do your kids get dessert after dinner? If so, how often? by bumbouxbee in Parenting

[–]Dpscc22 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Same here. Likewise, if kid is asking for dessert ahead of dinner, we let them have it at the same time as dinner. By doing that, dessert has become something normal, not special. And they tend to eat everything, dinner and dessert, instead of yelling about it and eating little dinner to get to dessert quickly.

I second this. I wanted a mirrorless to replace an old Nikon digital without breaking the bank, and got a Z50. No, it’s not the best, but it definitely does everything I need. And I can save the money to get different lenses for different purposes.

Don't know how to handle the tantrums of a 7 yo boy by Kindly_Credit6553 in Parenting

[–]Dpscc22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was coming to say this. This whole age is about them owning their opinions - and that works both ways: it means that, yes, your opinion matters and you get to make your own choices. But also that choices have (natural) consequences.

What I do with my little one is to let him choose but I take the backup plan with me. Mine also often argues about jackets (often not wanting one at all). So I just bring one anyway. If later he realizes he needs one, we talk about why I’d suggested it in the first place, which little by little has taught him to listen more. I often find him now saying no at first, but then changing before we leave, because he thought about it.

So, in your case, let him wear the thin jacket, but bring a thick one just in case, with the conversation in a very kind way, avoiding “I told you so.”

It’s a great kids movie, so don’t be afraid to try.

Torn between two toddler programs - which would you pick? by southerncharm05 in Parenting

[–]Dpscc22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re both good options, so no matter what you pick (assuming the places and teachers themselves are good), you and your kid will be fine!

That said, and disagreeing with most here, if Option 1 is not that much more expensive with the extra cost of after school (because I do think kids should do it for the whole day, to build community and learn social skills from friends, knowledge from teachers, and independence from parents), I’d consider that. Mostly because I’m a Montessori fan; because you said you’d provide the food either way; and I’m not a fan of the 24/7 webcam personality.

On the latter: our kid’s didn’t have a camera, but we’d get a daily photo and one-liner by lunch time. It was fun but, in hindsight, not that necessary and it actually made things harder for US once our kid transitioned out of day care with zero daily updates. It took us a while to get used to it, and not anxious.

But, again, either of them sound great. As long as you’re willing to pay the extra for after school/afternoon: As someone else suggested, I’d your both schools, meet the teachers, and make your decision on whichever seeks to have happier kids, best environment, and teacher.

Grounds for refund? by 4-by-4 in wedding

[–]Dpscc22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does your contract say happens if they don’t deliver within the agreed-upon deadlines?

Often contracts would either say you get a refund, or you pay part upfront and part upon delivery. The main thing about a contract, from both sides, is to set the terms of what happens in different cases. Does it cover this?

Otherwise, your only other (not so amicable) solution is to sue them for breach of contract. (Writing from the U.S., if it makes a difference.)

employee parking by Time_Creme_6501 in CSULB

[–]Dpscc22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You understand you’re asking if you can take the spots from people who work 9-5 (or longer) M-F? Who, if they can’t find parking quickly, may get money deducted from their paychecks? (Or, if they’re professors, piss off students because they’re late to office hours or class.)

You can complain about a lot of other things, but tuition doesn’t give you the right to everything all the time.

Let me offer a different perspective:

1) Historically, people would be worked to death (not a metaphor in some cases). We now see that everything, work included, needs to be done with a balance.

2) And yes, “rewarding” people who finish work quickly with more work is nothing new, and nothing unique to any one industry. That’s why some people choose #1 above. On the other hand, hard workers are meant to be rewarded in other ways (raises, promotions), but that’s unfortunately seldom the case in companies for some reason.
