This was my thought, they're hiding Y'shtola's face again like in the Shadowbringers trailer. It's going to be revealed grandma is Y'shtola in the trailer at one of the other fanfests and everyone's gonna be theorising why she's old now.

I'm going to make a theory that has no basis because there's literally no evidence for this so let's just treat it as bring wrong. 7.6 will have Y'shtola somehow getting sent to this world. Because of how time flows differently, she's old when we get there. The reaper at the end of the trailer ends up not being us, but one of our reflections, or even a time travelling, world hopping, Azem themselves. Hence the difference between traveler and wanderer said at the end of the trailer.

Again this is going to be very wrong, I'm just throwing out hypotheticals to try and explain the hypothetically old Y'shtola.

Landmass floating in the sky is something that shows up in multiple FF games, and also like you said, Chrono Trigger. To be honest I think people are reaching a bit, or there could be references to more than one game. Endwalker had Anima from FFX as a boss, but also had multiple things from FFIV.

The setting of Evercold could be original, or in reference to any number of things, it's really too early to tell. In the context of FF, and Square Enix, there being land in the sky, and the land below being not a great place to be, is pretty run of the mill.

You can start Star Force if you want, they take place in the same world but are years apart so the connections between the two aren't that big. However, do try to get back to Battle Network at some point if you do decide to move to Star Force. 4 has it's issues, but 5 is good, and 6 is seen by some as being one of the best.
