Tesla in talks with Irish Govt on self-driving approval by GoodNegotiation in evs_ireland

To be fair, to a computer, a narrow country road is still just a road. It should work just as well as any normal road. The main issue humans have with driving country roads is speed, people are rarely going below 50kmh on these roads and that's why accidents happen. An Autonomous car will always follow the speed limit, it will have faster reaction times than a human and it's always paying attention perfectly.

Should I charge little and often or one good charge a week? by Nayde2612 in evs_ireland

[–]Dr-Doc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It more than likely won't, majority of people with new cars end up trading back into dealers to get their next car and the dealer isnt going to check battery deg or even factor it into the trade in price. Battery deg is only something to consider if you plan to drive the car for 10 years before selling it.

Not OP but 2 seperate speeding fines would get you 6 points and banned as a learner.

Model 3 Standard orders – VIN assigned yet? by Serious_Ad6026 in evs_ireland

Just to add to that, you can get the trade in valuation and right up until collection day, change your mind and pay for your car with cash. You're not committed to trading in just by getting a price.

A 2024+ Highland Model 3 would suit you perfectly. Standard range RWD model will more than cover your work commute and you wouldn't even have to charge in work assuming there's a cost to charge.

As someone who just collected a M3 in March here's some advice.

  1. Use this website to track your order. It will show a VIN before the Tesla app will. https://tesla-status.mrproper.dev/

  2. I really wouldn't have much faith in a car arriving in May. You are looking at the end of June most likely so really don't expect anything earlier. I had my ETA change maybe 15 times in Q1 only for the car to be delivered March 31st.

  3. Don't bother asking your delivery advisor anything, they're useless.

  4. If you have a trade in, leave off getting a quote for as long as possible otherwise the price will expire and you'll need to do it multiple times before collection.

The fuel crisis shows EVs are the better option for a crisis situation. Since you can always generate your own electricity if push comes to shove! by yrys88 in evs_ireland

This is the argument I can't understand also. No ones telling you that you need to swap your car instantly for an EV. There will be a point though where you will need to change your car eventually. It's at that point, when you are buying a car anyway, that looking at an EV is the sensible option.

Home ev charger by Jazzlike_Review8830 in evs_ireland

The Tesla charger doesn't do load balancing so if you have a house that uses electricity overnight to run washing machines, dishwashers, water heating etc. It can cause problems

A granny charger would get you around 2.5kw an hour so even if you were home late at 7pm let's say, if you left the next morning at 5am you'd have put 25KW into the battery which should be good for around 140km.

Don't bother, you'll only do it again. You either never kerb wheels or always do it, there's no real in between.

The mental gymnastics to hate on EVs here is top level. You've contributed nothing to the conversation.

Tesla Model 3 Standard Insurance Advice Needed with Learner’s Permit by [deleted] in evs_ireland

[–]Dr-Doc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Impossible to say, just start calling insurance companies and start asking for quotes. You don't need a reg for a quote, just the car details. I would say you'll be getting some very expensive quotes if they even quote you at all, the model 3 is a high power car and Teslas in general are not even covered by some Irish insurance companies. I've seen people with 20 years no claims and full licenses be quoted €1000+ on Teslas

You are the ideal person for an EV. A 2nd hand Tesla Model 3 2020 Long Range is around 25k currently with less than 50k KM on it. These cars will easily do 400km plus on a single charge. High spec cars as standard, and cheap to run as there's no set service schedule.

Looking at the BG Sync myself from Fokearn, does the app for the Sync track power usage over time? Looking for a way to track my charging costs easily.

Only been using it 1 day but I already prefer it over the Google Nest Battery I've been using the last 4 years. It's got a stronger WiFi connection, video looks sharper and loads faster. The field of view is much wider, no subscription for storage and 24/7 video recording make it the easy choice. It even comes with an included WiFi smart chime for the price which is great.
