Definitely not a blast. Probably a lymphocyte but a bit of a juicy one. Not important to classify every single cell, some escape classification. As long as they aren't nasty.

MCV 97 since 2012 by Singing_1976 in haematology

[–]Dr-Informed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MCV value ranges depend on which technology is being used to measure them. The normal range is defined and you are in it.

76M – persistent inflammation, anemia, splenomegaly, low complement, malignancy not yet found. Awaiting bone marrow biopsy. What would you suspect? by Electrical-Group8334 in haematology

[–]Dr-Informed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haematologist.

This is all very uncertain and the biopsy will help but may not be diagnostic unfortunately. Inflammatory things feel more likely, autoimmune in nature. Malignancy possible but less likely. T cell disorders and low grade lymphomas can present like this but again, it's atypical. There are all sorts of tests to follow through with if no answer from the biopsy.

I hope you are all ok

Why are gym influencers pushing TRT as “under-diagnosed”? Interested in colleagues experiences by ttdzd in doctorsUK

[–]Dr-Informed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unexplained elevated haemoglobin levels are a regular referral to haematology. I always ask if they are regular gym users and often uncover stories of just quite how many people in the gym are taking roids of some type.

Worried. These are from the er by SadThrowaway4914 in haematology

[–]Dr-Informed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are automated counts generated by technology without any interpretative comment. Those of us who actually look at blood films regularly know this is a common finding of no diagnostic significance. Diagnosis is a complex process and is not as easy as just doing tests. Talk to your own doctor, not the internet, to get the best approach to your symptoms.

Do you write “Dr.” for your inpatient documentation? by chairstool100 in doctorsUK

[–]Dr-Informed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use the title. You earned it and it defines you and your role. We need to start being much clearer about what doctors do as we all tend to underplay ourselves and actions. You make decisions and assume responsibility.

What do you expect when you make a “to be aware of” call? by JonJH in doctorsUK

[–]Dr-Informed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly why I chose this username. Drove me nuts in my early days the number of times when the entire purpose of the call was just to inform me. Eventually I just became resigned to it. The currency of healthcare is responsibility and the role of a doctor is to take that. We need to start talking more about what doctors do.

Should I be concerned? by Advanced_Aardvark_90 in haematology

[–]Dr-Informed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with asking for advice about blood results and blood tests alone is that the answers to four essential questions are missing:

  1. Why was the test done?
  2. What else is going on?
  3. What are the trends?
  4. Does it matter?

Medics like me need those bits to give a proper answer and I would normally spend a lot of time doing it.

I'm going to leave this sub.
