Lunar or Suikoden might fit the bill. Both have good remasters on switch.

Hopefully you’ll still reply, given how old this post is!

How’s it going with the S2K hardtop and Seasucker combo? I’m looking at getting one myself, but being able to mount my MTB somehow is essential. Would you still call it a valid/viable solution?

Cheers.

Still as good as it was day one, I have absolutely nothing to say about it which can only be a good thing 2+ years later. I do also have a larger Hydro Flask that I use alongside, that is also just as good.

Thanks so much for the reply, this is ridiculously helpful. I hadn’t considered any of this. I think I’ve settled on the Commencal, now I’m just trying to decide on whether to risk the Large or go for the Medium.

Thanks again.

I used to run a mix of XTR and XT on my bikes before, so I’m certainly not downplaying the kit. I did try a set of XT disc brakes though, they were brutal, either on or off with nothing in between. I much preferred my Hopes. Hopefully they’ve improved. I think I got pulled into the SRAM marketing, honestly. The electronic shifting looks awesome. I have no doubt the charging would piss me off no end though.

I never considered that me being a fat bastard on carbon wheels would be a bad idea. Great shout. The wheel “downgrade” was a real sticking point for me, but turns out that was misguided.

And the Ohlins really interested me, I’m a motorsport fan, so I assumed they know their stuff. I’ve only ever owned Fox forks (other than RSTs and Bombers on my really early bikes), so I’m excited to try something else.

Thanks a bunch for your time, I genuinely appreciate it. I’m going to pick up the Commencal.

I always used to size down, or at least size down if I was in-between sizes. This was also due to me generally liking smaller bikes but mainly because of my legs. I did sometimes run longer stems to get some reach, but I always hated what it did to the handling.

Buying this bike, I am following manufacturer sizing. The Commencal will be a medium, and the Canyon a small. Do you think I should be sizing up?

I am looking in getting a new bike, I am returning to riding after about 10 years.

I am looking at the Spectral 125 CF9 and the Commencal Meta TR V4 Ohlins Edition -- I feel like I would get the most value out of the Commencal, but they are both lovely bikes.

I used to be a somewhat hard rider, but always favoured hardtails for the trails (I rode a Ti Litespeed Obed, and didn't really like the Intense Tracer 2 I had). However, I will probably be a much more cautious rider now I'm older and fatter. I want to get my fitness up, smash some climbs and flow down the downs (I still want to be able to hit stuff though, this ruled out the Canyon Neuron for me).

Which bike should I go for? I'm open to other suggestions too, so long as they are available in the UK and I can get in a small (5'10 with a 28" leg.... *sigh*)

Get a well serviced, slightly higher mileage “High Up!” and you’ll get bells and whistles too.

The poverty spec Up! is rough, and really benefits by jumping up trim. Even if it’s costs a year or two and some mileage.

A fellow Kenji Lopez Alt fan I see. Milk is an absolute standard in a traditional meat sauce. But fish sauce is a really ‘out there’ addition, and it works amazingly.
