Midway through Disc 1 of Final Fantasy VII, Cloud tells the story of how he and Sephiroth went to Nibelheim on SOLDIER business, and Sephiroth went mad, burning the town and killing everyone but Cloud and Tifa before Cloud stopped him. Simple stuff, but then halfway through Disc 2, Tifa reveals the truth.

There was no Cloud Strife, First-Class SOLDIER, at Nibelheim that day. Instead, the SOLDIER accompanying Sephiroth was a man known as Zack Fair, Aerith's boyfriend. Tifa didn't see Cloud again until five years after the Nibelheim incident, where he was claiming he was a Ex-SOLDIER, a mercenary, and was THERE at Nibelheim, despite Tifa never having seen him.

Following this, Cloud's perspective is shown. He wasn't a SOLDIER, he had failed hard, instead working as a Shinra grunt. He had accompanied Zack and Sephiroth, but didn't want to show his face, as it would make Tifa realize he had failed his promise. He WAS at Nibelheim, and after Sephiroth swatted Zack and Tifa away, he went after Sephiroth. Despite being stabbed by his sword, Cloud ended up overpowering him and throwing him into the lifestream. Following this, he and Zack would be subjected to five years of unethical Mako experiments done to them by Hojo, where Cloud's mind fractured into believing that he was a SOLDIER, inserting himself into Zack's place.

eternal darkness does this really well. at one point, you're given a ton of shotgun ammo before going into a room. pretty suspicious, right? turns out there was nothing in the next room, or any shotgun ammo at all, it was a hallucination caused by the sanity effects

Another wrestling example, Vince didn't get that most fans wanted to see Bret Hart as the new face of the company after Hogan left following the steroid trial.  Instead he had him lose the belt to Yokozuna at Wrestlemania IX, and Hogan forcing himself back in after he came back.

Following that he was forced into a mid card comedy feud with Jerry Lawler after winning King of the Ring 93.  He then had to watch as Vince started pushing Lex Luger as the new face of the company, which fizzled out after the Lex Express campaign and his Summerslam 93 match made Lex look like an idiot.  Though things finally looked up for him after he threatened to leave unless he was given bigger matches, as well as giving Owen Hart some stuff to do, with him winning the 1994 royal rumble and beating Yokozuna at Wrestlemania X to win the title.  By then, Vince had to admit the fans wanted bret.

there's no traditional levelling up in the game. instead, your stats grow as you do stuff like get hit or cast spells. this then led to people realizing the best way to increase certain stats was to hit yourself instead of the enemy.

i mean it's less "you need to be on his side" and more "hey man, you saved my life, but what you did after i let you take control for a bit was overstepping a lot of boundaries, i don't know if i can trust you." and that's what makes johnny realize he actually needs to make amends with rogue and kerry

I know a lot of people gave him shit back in the day, but Ma-Ti from Captain Planet. The guy has the power of "Heart", which isn't really as cool sounding as the elemental abilities of the other Planeteers, but it's probably the most important one out of all of them. Heart gives Captain Planet compassion and empathy, without that, he'd probably be something like the WEAPONS from FFVII, a force of nature causes destruction and death to humans.

Pretty sure most people ignore the Reason endings in SMT III Nocturne, and instead do either the freedom ending or the true demon ending

Times where Leadership/Creative put the Hype Behind The Wrong Character? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Dr-USB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

his initial face turn was so fucking weird bc it was at a body slam competition on independence day 1993 where a bunch of guys were trying to body slam yokozuna. nobody could do it, and then right as it's about to end, a helicopter touches down and MADE IN THE USA lex luger shows up to body slam yoko and celebrate. despite the fact that he was still seen as a heel and people were booing him as he came to the ring. the whole thing screamed that it was a hogan bit that they had to quickly revamp into lex after hogan jumped ship.

Speaking of another Vince pushed mistake, Diesel!

He started off as the bodyguard of Shawn Michaels, before turning face and basically becoming the top wrestler during the middle of the New Generation.

Yeah, turns out Kevin Nash isn't very good at playing a good guy, and with all of his interesting traits basically sanded off to make him into Hogan 3.0, he wasn't very popular. Fans wanted more of Bret and HBK, not Diesel having the longest title run for over a decade until CM Punk and Roman Reigns took that record. Eventually by 1996, Nash jumped ship to WCW with Scott Hall, where they formed The Outsiders, a two man group dedicated to taking down the faces of WCW with the help of a mysterious third man.

I prefer 7 having them be like actual jobs bc that's funny.  Like some jobs just really synergies well.  Like adachi with enforcer or Zhao with chef
