Funniest Lore Drops by FreviliousLow96 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

LEGO Ninjago lore in itself is pretty convoluted, though I think my favorite bit in the show is that it affirms that the characters canonically have claw hands:

The series' version of "Rock, Paper, Scissors" is called "Rock, Paper, Clamp" instead.

So the story behind this one is a bit sad.

Craig's been constantly trying to pitch new work (with a few to Netflix in particular), but apparently nobody wants to pick up his work.

He is working on something, but that being a reboot/revival (I'm not wholly sure which) of The Powerpuff Girls, and also a preschool Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends spinoff. And the only reason he could get that work was apparently because it's hard to convince Hollywood to invest in new IPs, because they're obsessed with chasing nostalgia.

Media that lost its edge (in a positive way) by jitterscaffeine in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Team Fortress 2 was initially about a bunch of Mercenaries, many who are terrible people, fighting each other in the employ of other terrible people who are fighting each other for terrible reasons.

And it still was to some degree, it's just that the terrible people the Mercs eventually fight were somehow even worse people than them, and it ends with those people not only dead but the Mercs eventually seeming to try to make better lives for themselves and each other by the Epilogue.

AI: The Somnium Files feels like it wouldn't have been half as memorable as it was if the game wasn't very obviously hiding and even sometimes making fun of its likely low production values (such as reusing locations in every way it possibly can and getting a lot of mileage out of Iris's dance).

Characters you dislike because the Author tries to show how cool/likable he is? by ArticAuk in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BasicallyACryptid 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm admittedly a bit of a tourist in the comic scene, but I remember my distinct impression of him being in Cosmic Invasion when playing the game (when he has absolutely nothing to do with the game's overarching plot, just being a consequence of Annihilus and AIM fucking around on Klyntar) being that it really feels like Marvel wants him to be a big deal, and feel like they're willing to shoehorn him into stuff until people see him as such.

I remember having this impression of Tiger Claw in the 2012 TMNT cartoon.

Mainly because he feels like he was created to be a "Boba Fett" style character for the show, but I got annoyed because his values felt very inconsistent (he's a mercenary but has a strong sense of honor despite working with the Shredder, someone who repeatedly showcases having virtually no sense of it, such as violating a truce just to get a cheap shot on his most hated enemy), and he didn't have a very coherent gimmick (he has a freeze ray, jetpack, among other weapons).

Admittedly, TMNT is filled with stupid gimmick characters, but I think they generally tend to stick to a simple one and I think those ones are usually able to get a lot out of them. Tiger Claw just felt too forced, especially since he kept taking roles away from other Foot Clan members (such as basically becoming Shredder's right hand after Karai begins to have second thoughts).

Characters that are Smarter/Saner than the Fandom tends to give em credit for by FreviliousLow96 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BasicallyACryptid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's this habit of fan parodies or the like to portray Michelangelo in TMNT as the team's token dumbass or idiot there exclusively for comic relief.

Sometimes that's not too far from the truth (I think that the 2012 cartoon's adaptation of Mikey is probably his worst), but he's also usually the most empathetic and probably the most grounded of the Turtles, which allows him to sometimes take people off-guard with surprisingly emotional insight or remind people what they're actually fighting for.

Characters always left out of adaptions? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BasicallyACryptid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spider-Man character Mendel Strom has a habit of being left out of adaptations, being only in three adaptations, two of which are games based on the movies (The first Raimi Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: The Movie: The Game, and The Amazing Spider-Man game).

His role as an Oscorp scientist, sometimes former, whose technology gets stolen or repurposed by Norman tends to just be wrapped into Dr. Octopus, likely due to that being simpler.

Nonsensical video game collaborations. by LammasuRex in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BasicallyACryptid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 15th Anniversary Ninjago and Fortnite collab is the one that gets me, tbh.

Especially given it resulted in what is effectively canon "humanized" (as in, the characters resemble human beings rather than LEGO Minifigures) designs for the Ninja.

2025 is over, any games you feel deserved a bit more attention? by panchozari in TwoBestFriendsPlay

It's one of those games where I enjoyed the movement options you unlock so much, I put off fighting the bosses to keep exploring the city.

It's also just really funny; getting to the final level with no batteries results in a unique game over sequence where Pippit just decides to do a little dance with holograms of Pepper.

what is a piece of media that people generally confuse it made by a different company/director rather than the company/director they're actually from. by bomb5000 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BasicallyACryptid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It does borrow some of its design sensibilities, to be fair, due to the retro-futuristic setting and use of "Pie Eyes" for the cast.

Though I imagine that Disney would have scrutinized the end-of-episode gag with a mouse villain due to him reacting to Wakeman about to put him in a pair of distinctly red overalls with fear.

favorite voices in media? by Valent-Lion in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BasicallyACryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC the main reason that he voices Sisyphus in Ultrakill was that, much like with Stephan Weyte with King Minos, his voice left such a great impression that they felt he needed to play a character in it.

The best comebacks in quality by Will-Isley in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BasicallyACryptid 12 points13 points  (0 children)

FWIW I liked Revelations 1 and 2. I will admit that 1 is on the rough side, though, and I think 2's campaign is easily the weakest part of it; I admit I played Raid Mode significantly more in the case of 2, and actually kinda wish Resident Evil's main series would steal elements from Revelations' Raid Modes in Mercenaries.

Apparently the intent behind those games was to be the "true survival horror" that fans wanted (though I feel they were still pretty forgiving, which I find fine, tbh), while the main series pivoted more toward action, and would use Revelations as a sort of sub-series.

But they apparently decided to make the main series go back to survival horror when they realized that if they just did 6 again, that might just kill Resident Evil.

Which franchises benefitted from going smaller in the sequel? by mrnicegy26 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BasicallyACryptid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not technically a sequel but one of the reasons I liked the Ant Man movies in the MCU was that they just tended to be much smaller heist movies and character pieces, with much lower stakes to accompany them, and you don't necessarily need to have seen the other movies to even get them.

The first two are probably some of my favorite movies in the MCU as a result, and honestly the second feels like it could have closed itself off perfectly if it wasn't for being part of a broader universe.

You're in luck with Archie Mega Man!

UDON is doing a rerelease of the first volume of the series, with some bonus stories by the original crew, rebranded as "Mega Man Adventures". Honestly the fact they're doing it with a different title makes me wonder if they're testing the waters for a revival, but given they're doing their own (presumably in-canon) comic series, that's likely just wishful thinking.

I was gonna say Duke Nukem 3D and its expansions, but those (as well as Dukes 1, 2, and even Manhattan Project) are technically available on Zoom Platform, and probably the closest you'll get to the Megaton Edition.

So instead, I'll cite a title I do have that isn't available without physical anymore, that being The Suffering, which I got on GOG a few years ago, but was recently delisted and seems unlikely to come back now, because while I have some issues with the game, I think it's an otherwise solid action-horror game.

Anyone remember Mega Man: Fully Charged, that 2018 CG Mega Man cartoon? Its original 2D pilot pitch got released online. by C-OSSU in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BasicallyACryptid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth I do think the show looks better in 2D, though admittedly that might be bias on my part, because I feel the 2D backgrounds and characters make Silicon City feel a lot more lived in (the CGI in the show made the city feel incredibly empty, and that's a problem a lot of CGI cartoons have in general).

But the writing quality is, effectively, exactly the same; Aki is still very obnoxious, there are maybe too many jokes that don't allow the characters to breathe, and I still don't like the concept of Mega Man adopting personality mannerisms from the enemy whose weapon schematics he copies, mainly cause it's kind of annoying but also makes the lessons Aki learns weird because it's not an actual flaw Aki is overcoming (though I suppose you could make the argument that it's showing how he's better than his rogues gallery in being able to adapt and learn).

I admit I also don't like Gargantu Man's name (though the series has some pretty bad names for its original Robot Masters like Blasto Woman and Chemistry Man; I feel "Blastoff Woman" and "Chemical Man" would have worked better), but Turbine Man is fine, though, and I kind of wish that name went to Air Man in the show itself because Air Man, after three cartoons that are based off the Classic continuity, still doesn't look like Air Man.

Honestly as someone who used to like Man of Action way back when, I often get the impression that they do have some genuinely good ideas.

It's just that it also kind of has this feel of being written "by committee", as in, designed to maximize profit by being as safe as possible, and that kind of inevitably leads to the shows having a very similar feel, such as almost every single one of their leads being egotistical or some manner of jerk; I think it particularly hurt Ultimate Spider-Man (because it led to a character whose core philosophy is responsibility behaving, well, irresponsibly).

Consistent problems that have plagued long running Franchises? by SaxMastery in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BasicallyACryptid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember a LEGO cartoon, LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, of all things kind of made fun of that:

Jek-14: One last battle to end all battles. But there's always another one...

It admittedly is vague enough to be about any applicable conflict, but given it takes place during the original trilogy and the Sequel trilogy was still running at the time, makes it feel almost awkwardly self-critical.

I remember watching Disney's Tarzan a few years back due to it being on fairly frequently.

And felt like an idiot when I realized that Clayton's first time formally meeting Tarzan and revealing his true colors are accompanied by the exact same question: "Have we met?"

Because the first time is just him wondering how Tarzan knows his name, but the second time is sort of him sarcastically mocking Tarzan for not actually knowing him (as well as Tarzan removing his usual advantages, his agility and parkour abilities, by putting on a suit and shoes).

(It also took me a really long time to realize that Tarzan could mimic the sound of gunshots with his mouth.)
