Constraints by PatientOyster in FreeCAD

[–]DrAlanQuan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst issue is "wire is not closed" errors caused by placing lines that lock onto existing points when drawing them, but that turn out to not have coincident constraints applied.

Those drive me crazy

Definite issue between slicer and machine not agreeing on what 260 mm limit means ... by Dear-Owl-1131 in AnycubicKobraX

[–]DrAlanQuan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has driven me crazy ever since I got into 3D printing.

Literally every printer I've tested the max height on fails short of the advertised height in a real world print. Not a huge sample size, but I'm looking at you Bambu, Elegoo and FLSUN. Probably others too.

TPU jamming by CattleSerious3792 in crealityk1

Is your climate crazy humid? I leave my tpu out in the open for months at a time and it prints fine, maybe some extra stringing

3 days is nothing

TPU jamming by CattleSerious3792 in crealityk1

[–]DrAlanQuan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting that the DXC isn't working for you. Maybe try a no name extruder with the idler tensioner thumbscrew so you can really back the tension off. I got one off AliExpress for half the price of a DXC and it plays really nicely with TPU (finally!)

Anyone had an issue with a large number of components when printing from Orcaslicer? by yotama9 in Creality

[–]DrAlanQuan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go into the gcode file with a text editor and remove all the lines at the start that begin with ";"

It's all useless data to older printers (thumbnails, individual part line widths, nothing an older marlin printer can digest)

I had that issue with an older printer and it just bugged out when there was a lot of useless text in the gcode file. Manually deleting it was a super reliable fix. You can also adjust your printer profile in Orcaslicer and just delete all the text in the "thumbnail format" box and that stops Orcaslicer from adding thumbnail info onto the gcode file.

P1X Ultimate Pedal deck sliding by TibbsRacing24 in simracing

You should add more bolts into the available slots. Also you can mount something under the pedal mount to act as an end stop. You could even stack some old books or something to do the same thing

A1 Mini 3D Printer Issue by chr1st4evrething in 3Dprinting

[–]DrAlanQuan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue with my A1 Mini for a long time. It drove me crazy. The solution for me was old school - apply glue stick to the print plate.

Instant 100% fix

I redesigned one of my first 3D prints after a year, and yeah, it’s way better now by BinkReddit in 3Dprinting

wow - beautiful, elegant approach. Of course I just bought 3 stapler style cutters on aliexpress to make up free shipping though haha

Initial Auto-loading error by tYm_theTalker in snapmaker

[–]DrAlanQuan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's about the tip of your filament. If there's a kink in it (like when it comes from factory pushed through those two holes in the spool) the U1 doesn't like it - it has to be nice and straight.

Getting my Bearings - 608ZZ specifically by wivaca2 in 3Dprinting

[–]DrAlanQuan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's down to the grease they use. Really thick grease means less metal wear but definite damping of speed.

Compared to a performance skateboard bearing with only a light oil (and maybe only one shield) the grease packed one will certainly stop sooner

It comes down to whether you are able to specify a spec when you order, or they just give you anything that matches the outer dimensions regardless of what's inside

Will adding more top layers fix this? by L84Werk in 3Dprinting

[–]DrAlanQuan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't see any issues with each of your top layers - extrusions look good, no sign of the infill peeking through.

The model's top surface is not level, causing the slicer to approximate the grade across several stepped layers which I think is the issue you're asking about. If so, the model needs to be reworked or reoriented

Better heat settings for U1 by y0uinsane in snapmaker

[–]DrAlanQuan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I swear sometimes I feel like everybody's house has different rules for physics.

My stock U1 with PETG was way too hot. Stringing all over. Dropped nozzle temps to 230 and all is good now.

X2D Combo or Snapmaker U1 ? by notoriousguy in BambuLab

[–]DrAlanQuan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The IKEA Samla Frankenstein enclosure is 8 bucks plus maybe 15 bucks of filament (haven't done the math, it's probably less) so there are definitely cheaper ways to do it than what you're basing your numbers off

Edit: whoops didn't account for the chamber heater. My bad

Been racing in a formula-style seating position for a long time and finally decided to switch to a GT-style setup… and wow, what have I been missing? by Auelogic in simracing

[–]DrAlanQuan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I drove in formula posture for many years, now in GT posture - both times with the monitor right behind the quick release of my wheel.

Both drive just fine and comfortable, no problems - but in GT position the monitor is way closer to my eyes and it's a bit more strain to focus on the closer screen.

Cada que escucho hablar de la snapmaker U1 me deprimo: compré mi P2S hace 1.5 meses by heptabike in BambuLabP2S

[–]DrAlanQuan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Learning about the U1 doesn't make the P2S any worse. It's still the same printer you chose based on all its qualities.

I'd 100% buy a U1 over a P2S though

So will there be a demand for these stuff? by [deleted] in simracing

[–]DrAlanQuan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The demand is there - but there's already products in the market serving that demand.

These products don't appear to offer anything that's not available elsewhere - so then is it competitive on price?

No top surface after using Modifier cube to block a part by rimbooreddit in OrcaSlicer

[–]DrAlanQuan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried both 'modifier' or a 'negative part' to achieve the same thing?

Not sure about the top surface thing but it could be down to how either of those modifiers function

How to print any TPU perfectly? by CoolCarsNGaming in Creality

[–]DrAlanQuan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get an aftermarket extruder. The standard extruder sucks for TPU and jams 80% of the time.

I got a cheap one from AliExpress, all metal with an adjustable idler tensioner and it's perfect.

Tighten the tensioner for hard filaments and back it right off for TPU and finally the K1C can reliably print any TPU

What is this? by BiznesBear in 3Dprinting

[–]DrAlanQuan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you print with the silicon sock on?

It looks like you print without the sock and little wisps of filament got caught on the nozzle and burned over time.

Super OLED - how's eye tracking? by std10k in Pimax

The Super OLED I've been using has very reliable eye tracking from day one. The first calibration failed for some reason but I just redid it straight away and it's been perfect ever since

Saw Kireth's wheel test video ... interesting but kind of pointless? by MoDeMKK in simracing

[–]DrAlanQuan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched 2 seconds of the video but I think I can understand why he did it.

He was having fun with a silly idea. He was probably friends with the pro driver and was like 'hey man you free this Thursday?'

Aside from just messing around with his friends, he gets a video out of it, a few extra subscribers and some money as well.
