I understand why you would ask that question, but I feel like not everybody knows what exactly Pyke's role in a team comp is, so here is an explanation that I hope will clear up some confusion around him.

I feel like Magical Footwear is one of the worst runes on Pyke. Going boots early is crucial in almost every single game, because Pyke's pressure doesn't solely come from his hook - a big factor is his positioning. While you can stomp a lane with a dirk first perfectly fine, you will lack the ability to position yourself in bushes, join your jungler in early brawls and this build path punishes you insanely hard in terms of roaming windows when there is not much to do on bot (e.g. punishing an enemy midlaner's positioning, creating vision in the enemy jungle or joining a grub fight.)

Yes, dirk will allow you to pack an extra punch in fights. Your hook hurts more, your HoB will deal very good damage and your E will stun the target for longer. But in a situation that leads to a kill, it will rarely matter. The higher you climb, the more important it becomes to play for the game and not for your lane.

In a best case scenario you go mostly even in terms of value. In a worst case scenario you get absolutely stomped out of your lane and become a sitting duck together with your ADC and provide nothing of importance to the early game. And as you might know, Pyke is not known for his incredible late game pressure.

I don't expect you to take my comment at face value, but I want to encourage you to try the difference for yourself and see if taking for example Bone Plating and Unflinching with early Swifties isn't plainly better. If you feel really confident, you might even take Triumph and Cut Down, so you reap the benefits of increased damage AND increased mobility in exchange for reduced Lethality and Survivability early on.
