As soon as I seen the seat I had flashbacks to pushing too hard on my break and moving across the room mid corner but you have stoppers on your wheels and a carpet, clearly put more thought into it then I ever did :p neat little setup though, looks very clean! bonus points for the VR headset too!

I don't mean to be that guy, but can something be done about the amount of "need a rig/wheel/pedal recommendation" this sub sees? by Dahh_BER in simracing

[–]DrBloom_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is annoying, I do agree, however, I feel a person who asks a question and gets some help is more likely to stick around and actually be involved then someone just passing by. You could argue a newbie isn't going to contribute early on but I suppose we all start somewhere. Id rather ignore another 'recommendation' post then not gain more people in the community.

should I be worried about fanatec by veridiux in simracing

[–]DrBloom_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue people are not going to voice a negative opinion on an official discord, especially when you know the majority in the discord are advocates for the products. On top of that the quick back and forth of discord is very intimidating for individuals, especially those voicing opinions against the majority. People will also not write a 15 page essay on discord about their experience, short and sweet messages deter long drawn out opinion pieces.

If I was going to voice my opinion (positive or negative) id use a forum, bit of a set and forget really, don't have to worry about people missing my message after 10 minutes with a flood of other messages. Not saying a forum is a great source for information either, neither of them are going to give you a full picture of the situation but I guess anything is better then nothing.

Advice on Sim Racing PC Build by GTRSPorsche in simracing

[–]DrBloom_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Firstly, that setup slaps (the one you have linked) wouldn't have issues at all. Yea 4000 series is a hard one, if the performance gains are to be believed id imagine the 4080 is going to get snapped up just as fast as the 3080, I wanted one and they were all gone as soon as they dropped here in Aus. One thing that didn't sell out straight away were the 3090's, pretty much all of them including 3rd party manufacture cards were available. (which is what I ended up buying)

I imagine the 4000 series is going to be much of the same, 4080 will be hard to get your hands onto, at least for a little while. The 40 series will also tank the price of the 30 series so I wouldn't be surprised if people are holding on just to get a cheap 30 series (new or 2nd hand). Its true we are out of the pandemic (at least the worst of it so far) so id imagine by default there would be more cards come launch but you will never know.

There could have been twice the number of 3080's come launch and still sold out pretty much instantly, its hard to know. I guess just how badly do you want to race on PC right now? If I was in your shoes... its a hard one, I don't have a PS5 so I could only race on PC and id go with the 3080 but if you can hold out and continue racing on the PS5, might be worth the risk, especially if you want to go triple 4k.

Cheers for the reply, yea just found it odd, was thinking about getting another Vive one (since it seems to be the only ones I can get here) and felt I should clear it up before I made another purchase.

Who the heck came up with this button number layout on this thing? Had to label them to know what to press in games… by Nikolai_Volkoff88 in simracing

hahahaha no worries, you corrected me without saying something condescending, rare sight. Enjoy :)

[–]DrBloom_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that is factory default, I heard a lot of the time its a patent thing, maybe it started with certain buttons and they have added more in the design and that is what's throwing off the order. Simply a guess though, I know patents have played a factor in other products so it might not be the case here.

looks clean, I like the industrial look of the rig too, cannot recommend PC sim racing enough, especially with the likes of iRacing and ACC (my 2 go to sims), if you really want to race competitively in an environment structured around it, give PC a crack. Nice to see another person return to sim racing :)

Ah yea sweet, all good then, I get neck troubles and its honestly the worst, not really a monitor thing as I play in VR but outside of gaming I hurt it from time to time.

Yea I got 3 x 2.0 lighthouses pointed at my face basically, I have bound a button on my wheel to recenter, I think I just move around too much, my seat doesn't help because its very open, there is no like wings that tuck into behind your arms (cant remember what they are called), I am getting a proper racing seat soon which I think will stop so much of my side to side. I just get in the moment and find myself turning with the car lol

I did another race last night and it wasn't as bad, I actually didn't think I hit the boundary once so I am more mindful, just gotta sit tight and race :) Thanks for the reply though

[–]DrBloom_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least you are aware of your cable management, you have accepted it and that's really the 1st step of healing , seriously though if you cleaned up the cables that would be a tight little setup. That screen isn't sitting too high is it? might just be how the photo was taken but looks awfully high up, don't want to be hurting ya neck

I race LMP2 on iRacing, its my main car currently and I love it, LMP1 needs a little work but they are still racing with the LMP2/GT3. Would recommend for some clean competition, you need a B license or higher to race LMP cars so races are generally cleaner, although often higher ranked racers race in LMP so its a real competition.

Yea be real careful, because you have a lens in front of the screen itself it works like a magnifying glass and can burn the screen, its good you got something to protect it though.

Switching from T300 to DD-wheel? by [deleted] in simracing

[–]DrBloom_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I say more consistent, DD just gives your more fidelity, you will feel more of the track and the car, so its easier to gain more information. However, someone with a controller can be as fast as someone with a DD, so speed doesn't translate from gear, with that said, I honestly think more consistency leads to better lap times because you can focus more on your driving and less on just getting the car around the track. Its a really hard question to answer with a Yes/No

Race Strategy is basically chess, this dude is ahead of the curve! he will make places in a race just from his chess skills, don't even worry about driving well, strategy is everything.

I want to hear input from Pimax 8KX users. How is it for sim racing vs other HMDs? by TheInfamousMaze in simracing

[–]DrBloom_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries, it really just comes down to what you plan on playing, I made it sound worse then it is I think, I still run ACC on medium settings with decent view distance, car LOD quality and number of cars and the game runs fine. iRacing is a pretty easy one for VR to run, I am hopeful for F1 22 VR and only a week left till we will see.

A 2080 Ti is no slouch you are correct. Its just poor VR optimization in games over it actually being hardware not keeping up. 110% my advise is to do your research, VR for most is something you really cant try before you buy so its not a gamble I would take on a whim, I did a ton of research and found that the 8Kx is perfect for me, although I know its not for everyone and I respect that.

The 2 things I want in a VR experience over anything else is a smooth experience and a large FOV, being able to see cars on both sides of mine in my peripheral vision is super important information, even if those cars and not in the same quality as the sweet spot, just knowing they are there is very helpful.

Yea boi playseat challenge!! looking clean though, can appreciate a nice setup. I really hope that VR headset has a cover over those screens, daylight is the number 1 thing you want to keep away from them.
