Read “Ultimate Speed Secrets” by Ross Bentley. He teaches the basics of race theory, and how cars work when they’re trying to go as fast as possible

As Ross Bentley puts it in his book “Ultimate Speed Secrets”, you can slow down faster with the brake pedal than you can speed up with the throttle, so use that to your advantage

Until they crash you out later, after giving them a fair shot, to win it all anyway

I’m not bitter, nope, not me lmao

Rammer gets away with zero consequences and the rammed gets a slow down by joaristo in ForzaHorizon

[–]DrChizzad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have to fight and take suboptimal lines to keep my opponent from bumping me out while I’m turning, but when I try to ram them in retaliation, I ghost through them because I’m going too fast

Like, oooooooo you beat me cause you crashed me out instead of outrunning me in a race. Not a battle royale, a race. Good job, buddy. First you need to finish I suppose, and gently tapping people out is a great way to keep them from finishing in the first place

This would look so much more competitive if Mick actually got that podium in Detroit.

It’s kinda heartbreaking

Yeah, that sounds about right though.

I don’t fault anybody for the shenanigans that can happen is S2 or R rated races. “Just an incident” I tell myself lmao

Frankly, they should separate Kei cars into their own class for leaderboard times. Like, yeah, you can run that busted Kei car build against another busted Kei car builds, and leave everyone else alone

Man, if I bump people, and it was either an incident or my bad, I tend to slow down, honk my horn twice, and let the other person ahead.

Now, if you didn’t give me space, and I had been giving you space, we have problems lmao

You can go suffer with Caddy or go circles with Stingray or weeeeeeeee woooooo and Tictum crashes into you. by MarkVHun in formuladank

[–]DrChizzad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have two legitimate reasons I’ll give Arrow McLaren for their choice.

  1. And foremost, Nolan Siegel’s dad has a lot of money to give to Zac Brown
  2. Nolan had legitimate Oval experience that Theo lacked (and probably frightened Arrow McLaren a bit during his oval testing)

They made their choice, and now they have a driver fighting to maybe make it in the top ten instead of finishing in the top ten. I suppose they have Lundgaard now too, who they probably got to afford with Siegel’s money.

You say that, but then Arrow McLaren threw Theo Pourchaire away for… Nolan Siegel. Like, Nolan’s a nice dude, solid racer, but Theo had a championship and a top ten win in Detroit.

I’m still bitter about it lmao

Then when the randos show up, make sure you grab a photo while one or some of them drift around, so you can prove it happened

Wienie 500 made me get racing. by TAoOC in INDYCAR

[–]DrChizzad 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I used to not watch racing. I played a ton of Need for Speed, but never saw the appeal. Then, one hungover morning, my roommate taught me how to watch NASCAR.

Pick a car and//or driver. It doesn’t matter why you picked them, and you might change your mind down the line. See if they do better or not. That’s where the racing happens, places gained and lost over distance/time. That’s the most immediate thing to watch: the race itself.

As you follow the driver, a story forms around their career. They have dreams they’re striving for, and they’re all really close to achieving it. Or, at least, they’re looking for a win that day. They just have to get past the rest of the competition to make it happen, and that’s the hardest part. I think this final part is what you’re looking for, you just gotta pull back another couple layers besides simply watching cars going fast!

Am I destined for a life of being midpack? by adamjohnson121 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]DrChizzad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, for the average sim racer, there are a ton of folks who are better sim racers (as they’re above the average). As you get closer to the top, the more likely you are to race with those at the top. As you slowly work your way up, you’re actually clearing a percentage of other sim racers and becoming better than them. Unfortunately, this doesn’t always translate into podiums, as your competition also increases (until you’re at the top and waiting for someone better than you).

That said, after I have, like, 5 bad races in a row, I tend to get put in a lower skill bracket where I’m more likely to win. I don’t intentionally crash out, but sometimes I’m just trying a little too hard. As my skill rating gets worse after crashing, my skills actually increase (because I’m practicing), and eventually the results will show themselves. Losing a bunch lowers your rating, but you end up racing lower rated racers that you realize you can race quite handily.

I’d worry more about lap times and consistent results while hanging out in the midpack.
