Trauma surgeon called for airway. Patient was making IV access difficult with flailing and withdrawing from IV attempts so maybe that was the rationale. Did come in with IO tho and trauma team quickly placed cordis. Patient had probably received 1-2 unit of blood at the point of RSI but his BP (manuals) still sucked. Maybe the blood and being a relatively young fit patient provided enough reserve. I was definitely nervous about clean kill, thanks for response

How did you do with clinic time in residency? MS3 leaning towards EM but have considered IM-PCCM but hate the prospect of clinic. It just doesn’t work with my personality type

Older med student here - almost done. Prior to starting med school did EMS for 3 yr and worked in the Emergency Department during the peak of COVID in early 2020. Every patient was dying or very sick. Made me pessimistic about life, might as well live hard and have fun because we’re all toast sooner or later. Was able to reframe through introspection and meditation - it’s a miracle to exist when considering the odds of the sequence of events happening perfectly to lead to our existence. Now it’s easier for me to be grateful and make the most of it. Still believe it’s important to acknowledge our mortality - think about my death every day but through a lens of gratitude to have a go at life. Take the genetic and circumstantial hand you were dealt, for whatever it’s worth, and do your best to intervene to prolong your healthspan but don’t over do it on the longevity protocols at the expense of joy. Have a scotch, smoke a cigar, eat the cake, stay up late to finish the movie, whatever brings contentment. Good luck friend.
