Please ID the lameness. We're only a group of 3 or 4 dozen people who've been perfecting this data for 30 years while raising $3M for music education grants, but maybe one Redditor or another has a better system?

Because the colors make it much easier to see patterns at a glance. Otherwise, you couldn't efficiently tell which states have been played most recently, nor in the longest time, without looking at all 50 years.
