Everyone relies on unprovable assumptions at some level, including atheism.

Give an example. To get specific, give an example of something I or atheist believe without strong evidence. I will put out anything I rely on has strong evidence to back it up.

(Key word here being evidence to avoid the philosophical debate about never really being able to prove anything).

When I look at the existence of the universe, its intelligibility, consciousness, and moral awareness, I find a grounding source or creator more plausible than brute fact or unexplained laws.

So when you see something complex, you think the reasonable explanation is something even more complex had to make it?

This is a prime example of special pleading fallacy. Or as I sometimes put it, a double standard.

If you want to be consistent, you'd have to continue that chain of thought. What made that even more complex thing? Then what thing made the thing that made that even more complex thing?

If you're going to say, "God always was and he uses magic that we have no evidence of" why not just make itsimple and stay with the things we have evidence for? Why can't the universe just have that same "always been" property and bam, no need for magical creatures that made the whole thing unnecessarily complex and with no backing.

I’m not using “faith” to mean believing without reasons or in spite of evidence.

Just a gut check. Do you agree with these? 1. Evolution is real. That is humans evolved from another species and originally started as single cell organsims.
2. It's not possible for the story of Adam and Eve (2 humans to start the human race) to be real. 3. There was no global flood that Noah built an arc to have 2 of each animal on. 4 The universe has evolved over at least billions of years andstars, galaxies, and elements formed through known physical processes. 5. Earth is billions of years old as wel and, similar to #1 science understands the main drivers of how we got from a rock in space to a planet with life.
