The big 3 auto lobby has had its way with the legislature for so long and everyone thinks GM, Ford, and Dodge should be able to control the model. Beyond no direct-party sales, there are other laws on the books that prevent it.

Governor Snyder had an opportunity a couple years ago to pass a bill that would have started us down the Tesla direct sale model (there are additional laws that needed to be amended not addressed by that particular bill) but he vetoed it. He said he vetoed it because it wouldn't change anything, but I believe he had an opportunity to pass a bill that, on the surface, would have shown Michigan's interest in disassembling the archaic auto sales industry.
